I was hoping when BK went south he'd take his weird depth chart vision with him.

Unfortunately it's alive as ever.

Over the last dozen years the offensive depth chart is wrong. No other way to put it.
WRONG.
Dexter getting crumbs early on at RB yet he was without question the best.
Merriweather on today's team might be the best playmaking WR on the roster but he probably got a tattoo before the age of 20 and we apparently don't like that.

I could go on and on but WR is one position you can get away with playing freshmen. If they're an elite talent you have to get them involved.

All the top teams do it. We don't!!
Merriweather tonight got his touchdown catch and then sent to the bench because you know...
Too many plays for him in this oh so complicated offense he just can't handle. So make your touchdown and have a seat. We'll give you another pass in week 9. Maybe.

If you were a top receiver why the hell would you want to come here? Oh wait....nobody does want to come here.

The offense desperately needs a new identity and scheme.

If you're going to do the nifty spread then sling that sum bitch all over the field. Make top talent want to come here and get in on the fun.

As long as Rees is here this anemic offense will continue.

Moreover....
4th and 8 and we run 7 yard pattern.

This isn't new. It happens a lot and I've pointed this out before as it's really juvenile. Amateur high school stuff. Hell high school kids know better...
Far too often we're running routes a yard short.
Smart kids are at ND they just don't play smart.
Truly amazing the coaching of little details like that is so utterly piss poor. It's amateur hour on offense.
Always.
Period!!!

Then how do you account for a great win/loss record over the last 5 years

Awful schedule, did you see the teams we were beating/sneaking by? We weren’t beating teams with equal/more talent.
That’s pure B.S. Kelly could only play the teams that were scheduled, and Kelly was scoring 34 points per game.

Oh, but Marshall and Stanford strengthened our schedule.

Stop trying to diminish and denigrate Kelly’s record, he and he alone resurrected ND ‘s football program !

You and others are just whining malcontents !

If Merriweather played most of the game against Marshall and Stanford, he’d be demanding double teams by now and Mayer would have even more crazy stats. Styles would have more catches, and the run game would be even better. Only a complete and utter pos would keep him on the sidelines.

Three of the years were insanely easy schedules.
Easy schedules ?

Didn't Marshall and Stanford teach you anything ?

Kelly could only play the teams on the schedule, a schedule that he didn’t structure,

Stop the “weak schedule” horseshit, he beat the teams he faced.

How has MF fared in that department ?

Don’t make statements that erode your credibility !

If he was targeted on 5 post routes per game, I bet he’d catch 3 out of 5. His only two plays on Saturday nearly resulted in 14 points. Had Pyne not over thrown him he’d be 2-0 for 14 points. There is no one else on the team with that level of talent. We left a lot of points off the board this season by making him sit and play the he’s a freshman game. He was only inserted bc Rees felt desperate. Then we go up bc of him and he never touches the field again.

SOS

2021: 43rd
2020: 8th
2019: 35th
2018: 23rd
2017: 2nd

I don‘t see any “insanely” easy schedules here. They’re not 1987–1993 ND schedules, but while 2021 and 2019 are not difficult, they are also not pure cupcake.

Thanks for introducing facts to irrational, uninformed ramblings

That’s your uninformed opinion, and you’re entitled to it !

Uninformed how? Do you not think Tobias is a very talented player that would have helped us this season? Please explain.
You are grossly uniformed because you’re totally lacking in data points, facts.

You don’t attend every practice and you’re unqualified to make informed, intelligent decisions about player personnel, game plans, adjustments, etc., etc...

You’re just a fan whose perspective is guided by and limited to the extremely narrow exposure to ND football that you see on TV

Please tell me you’re joking. Nobody thinks our coaches show up to practice.

Lol.

That's your come back...he beat the teams he faced.

Lol.
tulsa says hi.
Northwestern says hi.
Arizona St says hi.
Duke says hi.
Ncsu says hi.

All teams Kelly got whipped by while at Notre Dame. All when Notre Dame was the superior team talent wise.

If that's the only route he knows, he could run it ten times a game lol.
Exactly. He looks huge. He is a different level from our other receivers. Bigger, faster, great hands, athletic. He’s a beast.

So it’s your position that Kelly should have won every game ?

So Kelly’s 100+ wins are dwarfed by a few losses,

at some point you have to give the devil his due instead of just nit picking and whining !

Wasn’t comparing BK/MF, simply answering your question regarding the win loss record. Can you name a team BK beat that ND wasn’t more talented then? Maybe Clemson without Trevor but we saw how that rematch worked out. This schedule is fairly weak, BK would have lost 3, Freeman will lose 5-6. Any competent coach would aka non first timer would be 5-1.

Oklahoma at Oklahoma where we were a 9-11 point underdog

Don’t forget Navy! Twice?

Who else was he going to beat ?

Teams he didn’t face ?

IN ORDER TO POST There should be a minimum IQ TEST
He could have won a game that mattered (I’ll give ya OU) and beat Georgia, Bama, Clemson, Miami..not to mention NC St, Duke, UConn, Navy, ASU, Tulsa, USF. The guy left, not NDs choice. What exactly are you clamoring for, what’s your point? BK was better? Nobody disagrees, but all should agree he wasn’t going to bring ND to elite, not when you lose by 20+ Multiple times to elite teams

Here we go again, another blowhard on the " are you at practice? Do you see these guys every day? who knows players better than coaches who are NEVER wrong with anything". Just because "coach" is your job title doesn't mean that you are never wrong. There are bad cops, lawyers, doctors, engineers, accountants etc. So tired of hearing this stupid $hit all time.

No the point is if you are saying Kelly ended up doing well he had tons of losses against teams he shouldn't have when he started...and some even later. So don't use him as an example of beating the teams he's supposed to, he didn't in fact he lost more games against inferior competition than any coach is recent memory. Remember he is the winningest coach in history...he's also the LOSINGEST COACH in ND history.

Give him his due, but he wasn't great.
