And at what point would you call for Zaire to be benched and one of them to start?

Um, if ND wants to go 3-9 be my guest and put in Kizer. The only way Wimbush plays is if Malik gets injured for an extended period of time.

For records sake. I have been a Zaire cheerleader for the last couple of seasons.

That said. There is always a guy(s) on here that once a couple of turnovers happen they instantly hate the kid, and call for the next guy off the bench. So was just seeing if preseason, anyone would say that they are already looking past Zaire and prefer another option.

I can already see the post. Have a couple turnovers in the Texas game, and someone will say. Oh Look it is Tommy Golson Jr. or some such crap.

I'm not sure we have to have a discussion about every little thing that pops into our head. There has to be some kind of filter. I am sure that 100% of Irish fans would agree that MZ should be the starter for Texas. I have not read or been involved in or heard any debate otherwise. Not one. But, as I have said during the Dayne Crist days, Irish fans will turn off the switch for any certain player at the drop of a hat. MZ has a little more lead way because there is zero pressure behind him right now. The topic should be impatient Irish fans. Not whether MZ should be the starter.

Hopefully, Kelly will figure out how to mercilessly beat the ever living crap out of teams to get Kizer and Wimbush real game experience early and often. Someone better be ready real quick or we are an ankle sprain from serious problems.

Another disturbing thing is the fact that our TE's have one catch between them.
Luatua didn't catch a pass last year and that is ridiculous.

Until we start imposing our will on a consistent basis we'll continue to have no identity.

The post on this board of the ND FL Sugar Bowl shows how patience with the run pays off. The Oklahoma '12 game does the same.

Kelly needs to understand consistent brutal hard nosed football. Until then we're f'd....

I did in fact exercise my free will and speech by stating my OPINION that a person need not post every little thought that goes off in their head. It might sound good bumping around a person's brain but the finished product says they are trying too hard. I also made great commentary on the impatient fans of Notre Dame. I never doubted Golson's ability, but there's so much that Goes into a successful college QB. Kelly became extremely frustrated with EV making huge mistakes in crucial times of the game. Leadership is a huge quality to have. I believe Malik possesses a confidence and genuine respect for his teammates. Game management & decision making is paramount. This is why Malik started in the bowl game. I was always a big Golson fan, but Malik will fill the void just fine, Just ask his teammates. This team and game means so much to Malik (crying after the LSU game). That's when I knew Malik was the right guy. GO IRISH!!!!

The difference this year is that nobody has seen anything out of Kizer or Wimbush in spring games to make them think they should get a chance to play and/or compete for the starting job. Malik looked good in a couple spring games before being inserted into the lineup last December. Looking good in a spring game is the #1 way for the #2 QB to get the fans on his side.

No one believes MZ should not be the starter. Not one single person. Not the players. Not the fans. Not the staff. Not any of the "experts" on any of the message boards. Not the horn section in the band. The battle is for #2. The only time that this topic has ever been posed is right here. If BK and the staff read this discussion they all would die laughing. It would have to be a monumental collapse for MZ not to start. This team will live and die with MZ. If MZ had a bad spring game then EG would still be here.
