Player of Selfishness.

Recruiting is a terrible responsibility for a head coach. Highly frustrating and yet can be rewarding. And it’s frustrating because of kids like Knight, Bowen, Moore and Keely

Let’s start with 3 fundamental premises-
1- some kids of that age are immature, fickle and selfish. They get a pass, unless….
2- the above is never an excuse for not being honest and communicating truthfully with a head coach he put ND in a difficult spot
3- Parents have abdicated their responsibility to raise a child with values and manners

Regarding #2
Deuce was in contact with ND staff n recruits multiple times last month and the night before he flipped to Auburn saying he was committed

He is on record countless times saying he will never flip and that his mother values commitment and staying true to your word. Which brings us to

#3
Take the money and leave your values behind momma.

I am personally glad he is gone. I just despise liars and scammers hence my post.

Talent is nice. But not every young boy can be good at football.
However, Every young boy has the ability to become a true man. Being a man is a whole higher level than being good at sport. Every young boy has the ability and should aspire to being the best person - the best man - they can be. Deuce fails big time

ND fans should in nowise be disappointed. You can't lose something you never had. And Deuce Knight was never a commit. He used Notre Dame as a high value prop. He had a reservation where you pay on arrival...like Booking.Com does. You know, save a space, then find out where you really want to go...like Auburn.

Ski…the flip doesn’t bother or surprise me. Going to five straight Auburn games was more than telling, and whether for money or promise to start, etc… it doesn’t matter. What does matter is being honest and forthright, and Deuce was neither with ND and Freeman in particular. Character does matter, and the character of our existing QB room is seemingly outstanding and better sans Deuce.

I dont disagree with what guys are saying here. However, 2 things can be true at the same time... a recruit can have serious character flaws, but is the type of talent you need to win a championship.

I for one am very disappointed Knight isn't coming and losing him to Auburn is just a horrible look. But there's nothing anyone can do. Focus on getting the next guy and hopefully this is all a blessing in disguise.

Ski, ND has a logjam at QB, Minchey and Carr have monster potential! Auburn’s QB job is all but his next year, Peyton Thorne is awful if not out of eligibility.

It’s fine, ND will flip somebody else, maybe word has gotten out how good Carr and no one wants to be behind him, hahaha.

Totally agree. That is what I am saying. Character is everything or nothing

I feel like you - it’s not the flip. It’s not losing him. Some will say “Ski, you are really wound up about losing this kid”. That’s not it.

I tried to be clear. Screw him. I don’t care about him. We are truly better off. It is all about character and he is low on the right stuff.

I hear you. But isn’t an ND locker room and our fan base better without skill players of low character? That’s who we are and that’s how we roll

We have had some high talent guys with low character before and they left the program early - either their choice or ours

I bet you seriously think that the ND locker room right now has 0 "low character" people in it, don't you. Like as long as they stay at Notre Dame for their full college career, that automatically means they're a "high character" human being and anyone who would dare spurn them, well they're clearly just gutter trash.

The things some of you convince yourselves of.....man. It's really something else. I can't imagine the "thoughts" you have on things that are actually important.

A former Notre Dame RB was sentenced to life in prison a few months back for murdering a 5 year old. But hey let's all treat Deuce Knight like he's the anti-christ because he freaking decided to play football somewhere else. Some seriously screwed up minds here.

You are one screwed up mind. Do the math or connect the dots. You come on here putting me down as if I was a naive simpleton.
You are the one who does not get it

Of course there are some questionable characters in our locker room. The point is - no one really knows who they are. For the most part, everyone gets along and chemistry is good. There may be some suspicions but no one has done anything thru their actions to prove otherwise

Your reference to Cierre Woods is sad. He clearly messed up big time after leaving ND. It happens. There have been others. So what’s your point? We don’t need low character fools on the team and Knight has shown he is that.

You don’t have to commit felonies. You just have to show you piss on people to get what you want. That’s what happened. And we don’t need that and you are wrong because by all accounts we don’t have bad apples on the team. What they do later in life is their choice. So don’t get all high n mighty

So who do you figure the real scumbags are on the ND roster currently?

Looking at it objectively. Freeman has gone to the portal the last 2 seasons bypassing his own recruits. Hartman and Leonard were both lower rated prospects than what we got. So if you are a QB, you gotta be thinking maybe I will be spending my career on the bench unless there is an injury. He will probably start at Auburn from day 1. We got good players just gotta use them. Freeman still can use the portal again if he wants. There are plenty of difference makers aside from Knight.

He didn't have good options the last 2 years. Recruiting has improved so he won't be going to the portal next year

Carr or Minchey will be starting next year

Not for nothing but I think Carr is a better true quarterback.
Deuce is an athletically gifted player but that’s as far as it goes.
Maybe I’m wrong Jmo.
Yup. Carr will probably start in 2025 and 2026. Deuce wouldn't wait that long. Why I said he wouldn't be at ND in 3 years anyway. Better to be gone now than in 2-3 years.

I'm sure these things happened all the time prior to the modern era of online football recruiting journalism, we just hear about all of it now.

I’m sorry but Deuce acted like a classless punk throughout this process. Him and Peyton Bowen are the only two decommits that I will always root against. You want to decommit, that’s fine. Ivan Taylor, Keon Keeley, etc I have no issues with. But if you actively lie to a coaching staff for months to try and leverage more money/get your name in the headlines then you’re an immature person who will need to do some growing up before they have any success.

Lighten up Francis. Don't get your panties in a bunch over a teenager.

Its really not Deuce Knight that is the problem. He's just a product of the real problem. Amateur collegiate athletics is dead and gone. It was replaced with a AAA minor league....summer league if you prefer. The identity of collegiate sports is a business model, not an athletic one.

Before you created a new Deuce Knight thread we already had like four of them on the front page of the forum

please consider looking at other topics already published and commenting in those instead of making a new topic to discuss the same thing.

all it does is split the conversation and make it confusing to follow along

One thread is a fact based announcement, the second is an honest, emotional, visceral response to the announcement .

There are 2 threads in total.

But one could argue hyperbole is a common thread in your posts. Agreed?

I see 4 threads all containing a Deuce Knight conversation

1. https://notredame.forums.rivals.com/threads/deuce-knight.192657/
2. https://notredame.forums.rivals.com/threads/deuce-knight-is-the-latest-pos.192750/

4. https://notredame.forums.rivals.com/threads/deuce-knight-and-auburn.192602/

If all of these were consolidated down to 1 topic the browsing/reading/participation and general user experience would be significantly greater.

We don't have moderators so we have to moderate ourselves on this forum and part of that self moderation is not starting another topic where the same conversation is already being had in several other threads
