Coach Kelly needs to get his kids fired up more to start games ESPECIALLY BIG GAMES. This isn't the Pro's.
Navy and USC are big games !!
We need more Sonny Corleone's and less Robert Duvalls !!
Lets kick navys a$$ !!! Damn the Torpedoes !!

While I admit its been more than 40 years since I was heavily involved in a competitive sport (Digger's first head coaching job was at my high school). I never bought into the concept of playing on emotion. For one thing once the contest is underway it is fleeting at best. In addition for some players it can actually have a negative impact on their performance. Preparation, focus, attention to detail and demanding your own best effort seem more important to me. I guess I'd rather go into a game with Michael than with Sonny. I'm with you 100% on taking care of business come Saturday.

The problem with the thread is it's not Coach Kelly's style. He's more like Dan Devine when it comes to inspirational speaking before the big game. No doubt Clemson came out to kick our butts and we didn't match their intensity in the first seven minutes.

True but in all of these pregame videos ND puts out, I've never had an issue with Brian Kelly's emotion.

Imo We don't need fire and brimstone for the lesser skilled squads.
It should be more strategic and a function of what he is seeing in the team that day.... example: The umass one sucked and was unnecessary....

I think you are asking - LiketAra says -- to grant an accommodation that he cannot deliver. A favor he must refuse. I think Dabo from last week is a lot more like what you are asking.

Kelly's locker room speeches are at best - acceptable, but not very good. You need to send Bodi or theskibro in to stir the pot and get them fired up And if you don't think emotion factors in football, like one poster said, then wow Football is the one sport that thrives on emotion more than just about any other

Well there's something to be said about controlled fury, confidence and knowing you are going to kick ass. Every game does not and should not require fire and brimstone.

PS 20 minutes before the most successful hoop program in CA is set to hit the floor for a tough championship game their coach is holding court with friends/other coaches, the players are playing ping pong, listening to tunes, relaxed, having fun, saving their energy...

"If they don't know what they have to do by now nothing I can say will help...."

PS Walsh, Wooden, others exuded a level of calm professional confidence that was better than any speech they could give... They carefully chose their spots when to be emotional.

I agree with what CGVR is smoking Every game cannot be a Rockne speech nor should it be The ones I hear Kelly deliver on a weekly basis are just ok I do not believe his speeches are anything that will move emotions
