Coan was absolute money for us. The run game/OL dynamic is I guess concerning, since fans like to get all concerned about shit. If I had to pick something as 'concerning' it would be the defense in the 4th quarter. I'm out of my depth getting to into the weeds about defensive tactical philosophies, but that three man front just wasn't getting the job done stopping the run. But there were definite positives with the defense as well.

Coan is seemingly the absolute least of our worries, and it's a huge relief he's as good as he was. He's not Dan Marino, but right out of the gate, I would say he's as good as advertised.

When Notre Dame finally realized that they had more offensive weapons than Mayer and Williams.....who were being targeted bigtime...and therefore so was Coan.....then, FSU had other players to worry about. That took way too long...getting other players into the offense. On the other side of the ball, I place the responsibility....all of it...on Freeman's shoulders. That 3 man front NEVER worked....not once. I realize that he was shoring up the middle so that the secondary could be supported....and to provide a second line of defense against the run. But, at what cost? 18 points? This linebacker corps is either mismanaged....with the wrong personnel...or, playing out of place. The linebackers did not come close to getting it done. Sure, the stats will reflect tackles...even multiple tackles.....but only after the damage had been done.
