I read a transcript of Kelly's Sunday talk show. He was asked about the absence of DW from the game plan. His response was vacuous. I was overcome with an overwhelming since of dread; this man just isn't very smart. I mean, he must be, right?? How do you rise to the level of a division one coach without having some serious brains. Now, I am not so sure. It is a terrible thing to say; there is no hope. But, as a fan of ND football since 1962, for the first time I may be close to believing; there is no hope, as long as Kelly is head coach.

Since none of us know the exact truth......let's imagine for a moment, and this is complete conjecture on my part, that DW has done something. Not illegal, but some violation of team rules. Something that Kelly, nor DW, want to make public. Maybe for embarrassing reasons. maybe because it's nobody else's business.

If this is true, and Kelly is handling this internally - i.e. losing playing time, and you are all calling Kelly an idiot, all the while not knowing why.

Maybe, just maybe, DW isn't playing for a reason. Just because we don't know the reason, doesn't mean the reason is "Kelly is brain dead".

Lots of things, and I mean LOTS OF THINGS, happen behind closed doors on a football team throughout the course of spring ball, practice and the season. Not all of it is for public knowledge.

Welcome to the party! About time.

vac·u·ous
having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; mindless
"a vacuous smile"
synonyms: silly, inane, unintelligent, insipid, foolish, stupid, fatuous, idiotic, brainless, witless, vapid, vacant, empty-headed

Maybe Laken can use this in her next blog?

Maybe DW was supposed to be in for the 1st play when Kelly/Long came up with the Flea flicker concept and DW refused to participate, believing that it sent the wrong message, and was therefore benched.

Lou Holtz always used to say you use trick plays when you don't think you can beat a team straight up.

Your theory is the craziest thing I've ever read. I'm so angry at you that you can't get any carries at running back but you can play on all special teams.
That's a punishment I've need heard of.
Cmon guy.

Are you a relative of Brian Kelly? You won't say anything critical of him.

Why was Dexter playing special teams then? He made a big tackle early on and looked quite motivated vs. UGA. DW potentially did something wrong and is quietly suspended from playing RB, but is allowed on ST duty. Got it.

With the way the O-Line performed Saturday night -- does anyone really think that DW would have made a difference?

The Kelly lovers will defend the guy to the death. I keep scratching my head as to why? Stubbornness?

Not stubbornness; more like a different mind set. Some people will root for the coach, whoever that may be, until the AD indicates that a change is coming. Consider last year's defense. It was putrid, but ND fans still rooted for it to succeed. Drawn out hot seat speculation is not going to help the win loss record this season.

BK in his presser said Dexter was part of the game plan but that game flow made it hard to find a spot to fit him into the game

This - cracks me up that everyone is always so willing to jump to the worse possible thoughts on BK. Clearly he didn't make that decision by himself. In fact, it sounded like he was covering for Long who was the likely person who made the decision to not insert Dexter. Hell, Adams is our best pass blocking RB and he missed a couple of key blocks under immense pressure. So they obviously didn't feel comfortable putting him in there. And just as clear is BK's strong direction that they HAVE to get him in there moving forward.

Do you consider the possibility that Kelly brings this upon himself? And that is besides the rather mediocre coaching performance for 7 plus seasons. If not then objectivity is not one of your strong suits.

You would make a perfect Scientologist or cult member.

If Dexter was in the doghouse, why did he play Special Teams? Either you're in the doghouse or you're not.

Still blows me away when keyboard poster think they know personnel better than the coaching staff. Just laughable. I'm NO Kelly fan, but to think you know more about personnel is absolutely ridiculous. Listen to the post game podcast by Lou Somogyi and Bryan Driskel

We are just going by what BK said. Multiple RBs and he was pleased with the development of Dexter. What changed? If he was in the doghouse, then why play him on Special Teams? If he has deficiencies in certain areas of his play, what have the coaches been doing in his development since he arrived and even then, BK said he was pleased with Dexter. Fans have a right to ask questions and talk about the team. That's what we do. "Coaches decision" means zip to the fan base. BK doesn't owe any of us an answer but be consistent in your statements for crying out loud. This discussion is not just this message board debate. It was discussed during the radio play by play. It was discussed countless times on the post game show and the Sportsbeat show. It has been written about by ND writers. Are we not allowed to talk about it?

Oh please; it seems to me there is one truth reflective of Kelly as head coach; so-called skill position players just don't develop under his tutelage. How many players are talked up on this board, and are really never heard from again? How many QBs have really improved from their freshman year to the conclusion of their eligibility? I mean Wimbush is in his 3rd year in the program and he could just as easily be right out of high school. I don't give a damn how much of a struggle the offensive line is having, you throw everything you have at the opposition, at least in an attempt to get them off balance. All I have heard about is Claypool and Stepherson and; and? Where are they?
"Just couldn't find a spot to get him in." What???? Are we the fools?? Is that what Kelly thinks? This is his 8th year. Ara only had two more to go after his 8th year; and he was a giant. Yes, ND has had a run of bad coaches. Yes, it may be difficult to get a great coach. I don't know. I do know this; you have to _______________ try. At least do that.

My feeling about it is that in a very close game, the coaches probably stuck with the more experienced player. Maybe they were concerned about fumbles or something. I don't necessarily agree with that approach (if that's what they did), because a change of pace with DW could've helped sometimes.

Sure we should talk about it. I d like to hear what denson and long have to say but we won t .they make the call.

why ? BK has zero say now ? cmon Echo you are too smart for that. Adams stayed in the game because they were afraid to " change " anything . Adams is the feature back and they were going to win/ lose with him. Ok that's in the past now. What is comical though is that BK said today that he told the offensive coaches to play Dex more ... a little late to the party coach. He should also tell his WR coach to play Claypool and KS( soon ) more then his favorite player Smith. The BK clock is ticking so he better make some decisions himself.

"Keyboard Posters"? How else does someone post? Does this include Voice-to Text posters? LOL

Consider the possibility that Kelly was distracted by some fund raising responsibility? He may not have been able to review or contribute to the game plan.

Maybe he was too busy with the recruiting weekend to worry about the game. Or, he might have had an interview with the Eagles again.

I'm not for BK calling out his assistants. I am in favor of a closed door meeting to set things straight. I figured they should have already been on the same page before the game even started. This is the kind of "over sight" that should not happen. Attention to details. Apparently not.

Sorry but that's how it works at this level. Of course Kelly has the final say if he chooses. After temple Kelly was praised for letting his coaches do their job without micro managing. This week he didn't t do enough. Too funny.

One question, who is best suited to determine which players should play and how much ? The coaching staff or fans who only see the players for 3 and a half hours on game days ?

That decision is made by long and denson.
Here comes coach know it all. You talk on both sides of your mouth. You have said numerous times that bk is in on all the decisions, now all of a sudden its the OC and RB coach making the decision. He's the fricking head coach, if he wanted him in there he would have been in. Always the worshipper to bk

Complete moron. bk excuse was Dexter can't pass block, last I checked the guy with the ball doesn't block.

Sorry if you don't t understand the workings of a major college program. Don t feel bad.

What blithering nonsense. So, Georgia only used Chubb? If I am not mistaken they had 3 different backs carrying the ball. Two had almost identical number of carries. It was obvious early on ND's delayed backfield handoffs weren't going anywhere. A different style was needed. Others on this board have talked about the need for misdirection and they are right on. Even if Adams gets the majority of carries, there was 0 reason not to see if DW's style might help.
