Running game or Passing game? What should the Irish emphasize ?

Run when they think you're gonna throw and throw when they think you're run. The redzone has to be automatic . ND needs playmakers to emerge . Huge losses with Fuller and CJ gone. They accounted for a lot of offense and great great speed. Have not seen that since rocket and Rickey. No one in the offense is that fast . Still love the potential of the offense to be very versatile. Run with 3-TE sets , play action. etc . get it done. Beat Texas please !!!

Keeping the opposing defense guessing/off guard is the mark of a great HC/OC

I hope he uses the run to set up his passing game, but, Kelly sometimes gets too cute and tries to out-think himself at times, especially in the red zone.

Hopefully, Sanford and Denbrock can keep him in check.

kelly doesn't call the plays.

I hope we are like the 1966 team which was as good a smash football team as I ever saw.Crush them, grind their faces into the dirt. Make the other team give up at half time.
Sometimes I can be very cruel.
I was a frosh at ND in '65. We ran so much because we had a phenomenal backfield of Nick Eddy, Larry Conjar and Bill Wolski. We also had a QB named Bill Zloch who is to this day possibly the worst passing D1 qb i've ever seen. In '66 we had Terry Hanratty at qb and Jim Seymour at wideout. We justifiably threw the ball all over the place.

USC should have given up at half time against ND in 66 (final score Irish 51 - 0 over USC)
Check out the great fundamentals by the Irish blockers (USC defenders falling like bowling pins) and the low pad level of the Irish running back as he hits the hole.

You sure?
it was stated in a recent interview that denbrock called all the plays last year. that said as a play caller myself there is input from the head coach and others pretty much everywhere in the business usually in a time out situation. you can't be an effective play caller though in the course of a game without full reign. it's protocol. the play clock does not allow for outside interference. it's why so much time is spent on the game plan during the week. once game day comes the play caller runs the show. good staffs have great cohesion. when the other team has the ball offensive staffs are constantly discussing and making in game adjustments. even more at halftime.
