Recruiting

I hope there’s gonna be a major uptick and recruiting this year. I mean honestly, Is there another coach in the country that has more good vibes surrounding him than Marcus Freeman? Mom’s are absolutely in love with this guy
If he wins a national title is there any way the university is going to say "no" to him to anything? Even 25 mill in HS recruiting NIL budget? lol god i'd love to see the football team Marcus Freeman could build with a tier 1 recruiting NIL budget.

He was recruiting decently (9-12th ranked classes) before ND had any proof of concept on the field. If he wins a title, and with all the national headlines that will garner at Notre Dame all off-season, there's GOTTA BE SOME ELITE/RARE CONSENSUS 5 STAR PROSPECTS OUT THERE THAT TAKE INTEREST AND SEE THE POTENTIAL OF BEING A HEISMAN CALIBER PLAYER AT NOTRE DAME.

ND is a blue blood for a reason. This institution has gone through wave after wave after wave of being a dominant institution on the football field that takes the whole country by storm (NDs brand penetrates pop culture when they are at the top and ND becomes like the New York Yankees -- musicians/artists/celebs start wearing ND gear, all the casual college football fans come out as ND fans, ratings go way up, merchandise sales go way up, ND ascends as the #1 brand in college football again, high school kids from around the country salivate at the opportunity to get on the ND 85 man roster, ND starts recruiting top 3 classes without even trying, and the Notre Dame flywheel just keeps spinning faster and faster, and all is right with the world again.

Certainly on the defensive side. If you were a linebacker, edge rusher, safety, or corner, why would you go anywhere else?

ND needs QB1 and I pray he’s already on the team

BTW I was getting ready to submit my own "How Does this top 5 season at Notre Dame Impact Recruiting Going Forward" type of thread so I appreciate you being out in front on it. This is a discussion that im really interested in hearing people's opinion on.

Hopefully more guys like Jer Love, Price, Moore, Shuler, Gray, Sneed, Ausberry, Bowen, Young, Traore, Jagusah, KVA, Schrauth, Morrison, Faison, Greathouse.....Then add a few more of those types and we'll be top 5 every year

Most important task for Marcus is: keep his coaches, the position guys - Mickens, Rudolf, Max Bullough, Deland McCullough, Washington have done a helluva a job taking 3 and 4 star recruits and turning them into NFL level players. Of course it is nice to have Golden and Dembrock too!

Not sure, given our academic requirements, we're ever going to be a top 3 or top 5 recruiting juggernaut, but ND is proving (like Michigan and Washington did last year,) player development and the right transfers can get you to the dance.

I do think some 5* will take a second look. Best culture in college football under Marcus! But recruiting isn't the be-all, end-all it was five years ago.

our academic requirements were even higher during the Weis era and we recruited that level of prospect before. I dont think even ND fans realize the sleeping giant that the ND brand in college football is. Not to mention the sheer size and NIL potential of NDs fan base. Even during the last 30 years of relative mediocrity ND is still topping tv ratings and selling out their games every week and pulling in borderline top 10 recruiting classes while enjoying the benefits of having the 2nd largest fan base in the country. Now imagine what happens when ND elevates to the undisputed #1 team in the country after slaying the head of the scarlet & grey dragon?

Bro you're drunk on Driskell
You are using totals (even though back then ND got the benefit of the doubt) you play football on an actual field.

When you don't recruit the lines well and miss out on positions during a whole year it doesn't show in recruiting rankings. But it shows on the field. Freeman recruits the lines better and he never has a class where he completely misses at positions. His team building through recruiting is better which makes his teams better.

Also, Just because you were told that Leonard Moore was a low 4 star doesn't make it so. He's a freak. I wouldn't trade him for any corner in that 24 class. They missed bad on him so going into next year on the team composite ND gets credit for a 4 star when in reality we have a 5 star on the field

LOL

If Notre Dame were ranked higher in the same rankings im using, you would be using those same rankings as evidence to validate/reinforce NDs talent level. But since those rankings don't validate your opinion, you have to diminish/overlook them. You can't see beyond your own bias.

That's hilarious coming from you. I evaluate each recruit on my own. Some I think are underrated. Some overrated.

I told you last years class was loaded and elite. We have 5 freshman playing huge roles and we're in the NC game.

That's evidence. Not opinion or projection. And just wait til next year, that class is going to shine even more

Good effort, but I doubt Chase will comprehend this.

Notre Dame went 35-27 under Weis -- despite three top years (6-6-2 from OFD). Meanwhile, kelly never did this and he got us to three undefeated regular seasons and three championship or playoff games. Marcus' recruiting has been Kelly-esque in number and look, we're back in the natty after beating the SEC Champ, Indiana and PSU. Hmmm... kinda undercuts your thesis, doesn't it?

What most of us are saying is recruiting is just more nuanced than numbers. A lot of former 5*s have been busts for ND, while this year - two 3*s/low4* freshman have been critical to our success.

May need to rethink the model? Or would we rather have top classes and 35-27 records?

I think this is unlikely. Both Mickens and McCullough look to be prime candidates for coordinator positions when the season ends. If Golden bolts to the NFL as some have speculated, then I think Freeman offers Mickens DC. Successful programs always have this kind of turnover, but they are also highly desired places, so I expect Freeman will have really elite young guys to select from if either or both leave.
