Here are some thoughts on why recruiting is so frustrating to follow.

BB: Hitting .333 is really good
Recruiting: Getting .333 of your "big board" is really good

BB: Some fans are unhappy if their star players get put out 2/3 of the time
Recruiting: Some fans want to fire the coach if 2/3 of the players they want go to other schools

BB: High quality players seek every advantage to win (ARod, Bonds, McGwire, etc.)
Recruiting: High quality recruiters seek every advantage to win (Carroll, Saban, etc.)

BB: Sometimes its best to let the head-cases go to another team (ARod, etc.)
Recruiting: Ditto (think of the bullets ND has dodged in the past 5 years when they went elsewhere)

BB: The Yankees, Red Sox, & Dodgers seem to always get their man (even though they don't)
Recruiting: Alabama, LSU, USC seem to always get their man (even though they don't)

BB: Money ball and using advanced statistics works to put playoff caliber teams on the field
Recruiting: Teams like MSU, Stanford & TCU put playoff caliber team on the field with unheralded recruits

BB: Some BB fans are only worried about statistics and how they relate to history
Recruiting: Some recruitniks are so into recruiting that winning is only important so they don't lose recruits

BB: Sometimes it is better for your mental health to check the standings only about once a week, then wait for September to see if your team can make a run
Recruiting: Once a week is plenty when you are following the decision-making of 17/18 year old kids. Why not just wait until January & February to see if they can get a good class?

:)

Its a long season with lots of curves.

Cold weather teams often get off to a slow start.

And you can wake up from a nap to find out you haven't missed a thing.
