sometimes guys do that to throw down the gauntlet for their own team, or play head games with a big favorite - in this case, neither worked, but really, he had nothing to lose... I don't have a problem with it - it's his neck, if he chooses to stick it out...

he was gracious in defeat, which shows good sportsmanship...
