Pay Coach Kelly

It has taken Kelly six plus years to get the ND program where he wanted. This covers a wide area of improvements from training to facilities to recruitment to academic support, to relationship with the administration, etc... and we are seeing the results on the field. We finally have athletic talent and speed and size and depth, and our ability to win despite numerous critical injuries all point to a sustainable program. Kelly is in position to enjoy the fruits of his labor, and I don't see him leaving until he retires, which I suspect will be upon completion of year ten. Neither UGA or USC would represent a step backwards from a football coaching resume perspective, but ND is the pinnacle for a Carholic Irish football coach from Boston.

I stated facts. The challenges in creating a Championship level program at ND are greater than they are at other Super Powers. But the job comes with all the expectations and more pressure.

Urban Meyer's decision to pass on the ND job substantiates my point. The ND coach should be someone who is stepping UP to meet a new challenge. Not someone moving laterally with nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Coach, I agree and the point you make is why the ND job is so unique and among the best in America.

The teams mention UGA, the Florida school and other which are good jobs do not meet the ND level in prestige and legacy, no matter what the dollar earned.

The guys who criticize him know nothing about football. Brian Kelly is just further evidence that when ND hires a Head Coach that has had success at multiple stops. Leahy, Ara, Devine, Holtz & Kelly. It means he

A. Knows what he's doing
B. Will be successful at ND.

As long as ND stays away from moderately successful guys like Willingham and rookies like Davie and Weis. ND will win football games and lots of them.
Agree, Agree, Agree!

When a modern day Coach has success at multiple levels and or multiple stops, it means he is one of the best in business. Saban (Toledo, MSU, LSU and Bama) Meyer (Bowling Green, Utah, UF and OSU) Kelly (Grand Valley, Central Michigan, Cincinnati and ND)

Ara P, (Miami of Ohio, Northwestern and ND) Devine (ASU, Missouri and ND) Holtz (William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota, and ND)

No coaching hire is a guarantee. But it seems to me the potential for error gets reduced by a multiple of 5, when you hire a guy who has won at 2 stops or more.

Coach Kelly is the best at Notre in quite a while, but do you believe he's in the same group as Saban and Myers other than accomplishments to achieve a step to the next level ? I do agree that having success at other levels, and working your way up is better than a gut feeling in the hiring process

I guess my question is when we say best are we equating best with "most desirable?" I feel like we are all defining it differently.

Bodi - as I recall you got after coach kelly pretty hard last yr -- nice job seamlessly hopping on the bandwagon -- tell that nit wit to take that logo off his name and I will leave the fox news commentary on the sideline -- that logo should offend any open minded american

You are the biggest Dbag on this site. You have used multiple handles because you are a coward. You are also a moron. You think that anyone who disagrees with yourself doesn't deserve any respect. Fox news whether you like it or not has millions of viewers. You hating them actually gives Fox more credence.
Eat crap you Dbag. I am waiting on your new handle shortly. It should be Punka$$Beiatch !

Comparing what Meyer did at OSU and UF and what Saban did at Alabama and LSU to what Brian Kelly has done at ND, is comparing apples to oranges. I am 100% confident after watching Brian Kelly run the ND football team for 6 years, he could do what Meyer and Saban have done at OSU, UF. Alabama and LSU. I am not 100% convinced Meyer or Saban would have the temperament to handle the challenges and logistical difficulties of coaching at ND.

MNND ? curious, were you in favor of the Weis extension? Did you learn anything from that ?

TAM erred with a Weis like extension for Sumlin and now that looks like a 20 million wad to choke on!
