ACC, Big12, or Big 10 champ needs to have two losses. If all three of these conferences have one loss champs we are out.

Have to assume SEC is in no matter what and assuming Utah loses, by beating Stanford I think we can take care of the PAC 12.

That's one reason why that Michigan game yesterday was a killer. Michigan wins that and there is a good chance UM could have been the 2 loss champ we need so desperately.

All speculation on your part. Way too much football to be played to be making projections like these.

I'm sorry isn't that what boards are for? Speculation? Let's not suck all of the fun out of life. If you don't like hypotheticals then just don't comment.

The BIG is weak this year. Look at Michigan State.

They barely got by both Purdue and Rutgers, who equally suck. Ohio State? They've had their struggles offensively and barely got by Northern Illinois and Indiana (who got beat 55-52 by Rutgers yesterday - almost a basketball score). One of those will be the champion of that conference.

Then let's go to the Big 12.

Texas gets crushed by ND but at 1-4 beats Oklahoma who then beats Kansas State 55-0 at their place! Baylor and TCU are good offensively, but neither has a decent defense. What was the score between them last year? Something like 61-58? Another basketball score.

Sorry, but the champion from either conference will get embarrassed in the playoffs.

completely disagree with most of this.

Lou Holtz said it best.

On any Saturday, you don't have to be the best team in the nation, just the best one in the stadium. If Ohio State / Michigan State goes to the Conference Championship and beats an undefeated Iowa (the best in the West right now) they will be in the playoff. Regardless of any Purdue or Central Michigan games or any of that.

If you don't like criticism of your hypotheticals, then just don't post them.

Dont care if you don't like my hypothetical just find it silly for you to have a problem with any speculation on a message board. That's what boards are for. And it's not speculation. It's a hypothetical. Those are not the same thing. Hypos don't need more games to be played as the hypothetical includes facts and asks the question what if those facts are true.

So I'll make it easy on you. If the acc big 12 and big ten all have one loss conference champs does nd get in.

I say no.

For arguments sake lets just say you are right. Doesn't matter as they will still get in over us.

If ND's only loss is to an undefeated Clem ranked #1 or #2 then why would any other one loss team be picked ahead of them especially a Big 12 team with no conf champ game.

The "if" in the OP is silly. Take a look at the schedules. Most of the teams ahead of ND have two to four difficult games left on their schedules. A one loss ND gets in 95% of the time. There are not three dominate teams that are going to go undefeated or even have one loss with a conference championship, and a one loss ND is more than likely going to have wins over two conference champs and possibly a two point loss away in a monsoon to another. Win out and ND is most likely in.

I disagree with you there. I think it's getting very hard to see how the big 10 which has three undefeated teams generates a two loss champ. There's a path but everything has to go right for it to happen. Same with the acc and the big 12.

We might have a shot if it's one loss tcu and if that loss was to Baylor. If they beat Baylor that's a big win that we don't have. I don't think Stanford will get as high as Baylor. Oklahoma I think will be tough because they will have two top 5 wins to our none. Which will trump the fact that we crushed Texas. I don't think we beat out a one loss Baylor. They've been impressive in their wins and started the season in the top 4. Unfortunately that stuff plays on people opinions.

We are also up against the fact that big 12 got screwed last year. Same people voting. They might find it hard to do it again this year.

In the major conferences , some of the middle of the pack teams have to upset the top conference leaders . Like Oklahoma losing to Texas.

Even if we win out ,it will be tough if there are no major upsets in the five power conferences. So far it looks like Michigan St and Ohio St ;Baylor and TCU and Oklahoma; Alabama and LSU; Florida St and Clemson ; Utah and Stanford . We need some help ,hoping some average teams upset the leaders .Gotta believe . With 5 game left for most teams ,in college games ,there are
usually stunners . Hope.

your way out of line...No way any of this works out....joke post.

Agreed. We need Ok State, Texas and West Virginia to pull some upsets.

A one loss Clemson team would have an argument to go ahead of ND, there is no way a one loss FSU would go ahead of MD with that horrible schedule strength.

Yes, you are absolutely correct about this poster. His only contribution is posting snarky comments. Don't pay any attention. Hi is like 90 years old and a nasty person at heart. One of those guys that sits on his porch and yells at the neighbor's kids.

Every year, folks like you come out with projections like yours. And every year, there are upsets no one predicted. Your defininty

You need to have a thicker skin. My comments are quite mild compared to a lot of things I see on this board.

I fear if Oklahoma bets tcu and Baylor they jump us even with the Texas loss.

No way, after the way we whipped Texas 38-3, esp. if we have also beaten Stanford on the road.

However, I do agree with you that we probably don't control our own destiny, and will need some help at some point.

There has to be a lot of upsets in the 5 major conferences by the lower tier teams . I can see upsets .They always happen with 5 or 6 games left in the season . But the upsets have to happen in all the conferences for ND to have a shot .5% chance .Who knows . Just hope.

If not ,would like to play a power team from the Big 12, SEC, in a bowl .Like last year when we beat LSU.

That's a mighty big "if", but if it were to happen and OU beats TCU and Baylor - then yes, they'd probably be in the Top 3 in the
rankings and would probably be in the playoff. And deservedly so.

Again - mighty big "if". OU has their work cut out for them.

How is UT beating OU in their rivalry game worth and type of value when it comes to evaluating Baylor/TCU

Oklahoma State has a pretty good team, too, so hopeflly those Big 12 teams can beat each other up. Baylor may be the strongest, but then again they haven't really played anyone yet.
