Notre Dame football: CJ Carr looking at other schools?

Tyler Buchner isn't leaving. Even with Sam Hartman starting...which he will IMO...he's one snap away from playing in 2023, and he's the starter in 2024.
He’s going to start. It’s insane to think otherwise. He’s better than Book and he’s going to ignite the offense. But Buchner will likely see the field in 12 games.

Sam Hartman is better than Tyler Buchner. Buchner may play some; however, barring injury, this is Sam Hartman's team IMO.

You can't convince some of the haters no matter how much proof is in front of them that he is with his 7 on 7 team travelling to various colleges participating in those 7 on 7 s. He has been an active recruiter for ND like Drayk was for the last class.
👍🏻
I also read that he has been notifying the ND coaches before these trips to ensure no misunderstandings of his intent and his continuing firm commitment to ND. Thus far, Carr has been everything you want in a recruit. He can certainly change his mind between now and early signing day, but right now, he still appears 100% locked in to ND.
👍🏻

Buchner is stupid if he leaves. He will be the clear starter in 2024. Unless Minchey is the best QB in a decade, which is possible, it should be an easy win for TB. Love Carr and hope he gets happy again but don’t sleep in Minchey. He’s a stud.
Then 2024 is done before it begins.
Buchner is the prototypical QB of the old regime. Undersized, weak arm, innacurate, bad habits, and absolutely positively incapable of carrying a team in those huge moments of need. Sure he can beat a Syracuse type, but he's not a difference maker against the top teams.

If you want more of the same from the last dozen years then just keep on hoping Buchner starts in 24.. hell you might as well hope he starts in 23.

I, on the other hand, knows this team is in dire need for QB play on the next level. The top level. It's long overdue.

Buchner can be a nice G5 QB that steals an upset victory here and there against a ranked team but that's his pinnacle.

Why is he still here?
Well...
Nobody wants him.
That sounds worse than I meant it but he hasn't shown very much to be any kind of commodity...
Hell even his current team felt the need to dial up the star trek portal for a better option.

He can't just bail if he has top school aspirations because nobody is knocking.
He can't demand his team play him and tell Hartman to move on.

I do wish him all the luck and thank you for coming.

Buchner just single handedly overwhelmed south carolina a few months ago. 350+ yards and 5 TDs

That was with no Mike Mayer and NDs terrible WR room.

Who also single handedly put us in a position to lose with three interceptions and two of which gave the Ganecocks 14 points.
How many second or third string players was he competing against? I've no idea but I can promise you carolina was missing more key cogs than we were and he nearly gifted them the game.

Notice what I said about Buchner.

You must be a joy to be around.

I like Buchner. I’m rooting for his success. If he beats out Minchey we are in good hands. Minchey will get good under Gino. He could win the job. If so, he’s going to be sweet. Minchey will learn from Hartman and Gino. He could make huge progress

I like all the brethren domer' too but the fact remains there's a lot Buchner needs to overcome some of which is impossible.
#1 he's height challenged
That's not his fault and who knows maybe he becomes the next Danny Manning and grows another 3 inches after 20 years old. (He won't) but one can hope...huh
#2 weak arm
He doesn't have a big arm and this is something that can't be worked on. You either have a gun or not. You can't make a big arm otherwise there'd be a lot of Mayer types playing QB. Tall, thick, durable and we'll just give him a great arm through practice. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Buchner has the arm he's got.
#3 innacurate passer
This is definitely the worst one of the bunch. Again this is something that can't be taught. Precision accuracy is god given.
You can polish accuracy and make someone already accurate a litte more precise but you can't take someone innacurate and make them accurate.
#4 durability
One can't possibly not be skeptical on his durability.
Perhaps he was just unlucky a few times.
#5 pre snap decision
This CAN BE fixed but only he can do it. No coaching, no matter. Buchner has his mind made up pre snap and by god that's where he's throwing it.

Lastly the Hartman factor.

Hartman desperately needs a place to show his skills one more year before entering the draft.
I wasn't in on that conversation between MF and SH but I can tell you SH didn't choose this destination based on a "maybe" or "possibly" winning the starting job.
SH NEEDS one more year. He didn't come here with that possibly in jeopardy.

Minchey has every tool you just mentioned to a higher degree than both Hartman and Buchner. He’s already on campus.

#1 really isn't an issue. He's probably the same height as Hartman and hes taller than a lot of other very successful college QBs

#3 can absolutley be improved. I've given at least 12 or more examples of QBs improve their accuracy. Accuracy can absolutely be improved

#5 can be easily fixed with a now full time QB coach we have so that wont be an issue.

Sam Hartman is so over-hyped. There is going to be a-lot of disappointed fans if he ends up starting.

Minchey throws with his lower body and pushes the ball very well. He has amazing hips. seems to flick the ball. He is so smooth and doesn’t seem to use his full potential. I can’t wait to hear the early reports on him.

? If he doesn’t start I’d say there would be riots. He’s better than Ian Book and Ian is easily our most productive QB in the past decade. I think you’ll be very happy when he’s invited to the Heisman ceremony. I expect ND to beat Ohio State and make a playoff run.

MF didn't take over a Weis-like roster. He took over a Top 6 program over the prior 4 seasons. He needs to win now. We aren’t playing paddy cake with Buchner when we have Hartman.

Sam Hartman did not transfer to Notre Dame as a sixth year senior to wear a visor and signal in plays during games next season. You know damn well that barring injury he will be named the starter. The only question is when.

It shouldn't matter that he transferred in. Best player should play. If you are handing the job to someone over one of your own, you can lose the team.

He'll be the starter to start the year most likely. Just don't think it should be handed to him. And if Buchner comes in during the year and lights it up, dont be afraid to make the change.

6th year in college says it all

48 career starts and 8,000 passing yards the last two seasons speak as well.

The dude can play.

Genius Mel !!

The best guy should play. They should split reps in the spring and both play the most in the spring game. I would be very surprised if Hartman doesn’t take Tyler to the woodshed in all phases besides downhill running in practice and games. Tyler does nothing else better than Hartman. His arm is weaker. He’s not as accurate. He has less experience. He only does 1 thing better otherwise it’s not even close.

Whoever it is, our receiver room is disappointing and may hold us back. Sadly I could see a scenario where the receivers force Buchner on the field for a change of pace and we run Tyler 12 times a game. Regardless, if Carr signs with ND I cannot fathom a scenario where Buchner plays an entire season over those two without being injured and ever returning. Barring major improvement in arm strength, accuracy, and durability, once Carr or Minchey get a start and we all see how talented they are, Buchner is done.

I am rooting to be wrong on Buchner. I like him. He seems like a down to earth and quality dude. My guess is if the staff convinced him to come back, he will start game 1 in 2024. After that, who knows. I just hope we are done taking transfers. If not, I question Freemans future.

I personally doubt it matters too much who starts as I do not believe we have a team capable of beating Bama or Georgia. That said, I think Hartman gives us the best chance vs Ohio State and I want to win that game. If that’s the best thing we get out of next season by having Hartman, it was worth it to me.

No...you can't make someone who is NOT accurate become a pin point precise passer.

You can polish accuracy. You can't make someone accurate who is not.

I'm not sure what part here you don't understand.

Moreover if what you said were true then there wouldn't be a dire need and Chinese fire drill getting QB's out of high school.

Hell teams would just make a QB.
We can just teach them to do everything....right? According to your logic we can just take one of our tight ends and make them a QB.
Height? Check
Durability? Check
Smart? Most are! Check
Pppffftt...the throwing?
We'll just make them good passers. No worries.

Sorry but it doesn't work like that.

Just like you can't make someone fast.
You can polish that speed to make them fastER but nobody can take someone slow and make them fast.
