Notre Dame Being Overrated Is A Tired Trope, But It's Not Going Away Until ND Earns Big Game Wins

Since the BCS era, aside from a few cinderella type seasons by various programs, who has beaten Alabama, OSU, Clemson, or Georgia with any regularity?

My problem with Notre Dame isn't so much they lose these big games, its how badly they lose them. I am truly hopeful it was a HC issue as I've always felt Kelly was a piss poor big game coach. All in all, ND needs to start winning a few of these games against the top tier teams.
In the playoffs, it usually seems the two teams that lose in the semis get their teeth kicked in. Look at what Georgia did to Michigan last year -- made them look very much like Notre Dame in one of those games.

I agree with you with Kelly's approach, but I'd say he didn't make any changes for the big games; he just fielded the same old same old, and that's simply not good enough when you are up against top talent and coaching.

As to the original question, about whether saying ND is overrated is, well, overrated, I'd say this upcoming game against Ohio State will tell us a lot. If we truly are #5, we should stay with them, maybe lose by a TD or pull out a close win. But who here wouldn't be surprised if we got blown out by 14-to-24 points? In that case, yeah, I guess you can say we are overrated.

If you think ND is overrated then don’t blame ND, blame the morons rating them.

As ND fans it’s fair to say we are pleased with progress but not satisfied with where we currently stand

Parseghian record surprises me , thought his schedules were harder then that and a better record vs top 25
As mentioned Purdue had Ara's number and ND-SC was a dog fight for the national title almost every year.

Reality is, it will never go away. You either love ND or loath ND.

ND could win the title this year and we would still be over rated because of some reason. We could win 2 titles out of 3 and the 4th season Paul F would say we are over rated.

It’s just click bait to get it he can bases going.

As for overall records, nat’l championships & several near misses for nat’l championships, program status during his era, & just overall coaching charisma, I’d put ara in the top 10 all time.
Sounds reasonable to me.
