With a house cleaning among the coaching staff and a self proclaimed new found focus by BK we paid attention. In the least we're curious to what if any change would take place.
The good.
Defense. Playing faster. It helps when there isn't mass confusion among the back seven right before the ball is snapped. That alone has helped immensely. A confused player is a slow player. To those who still dream of shutouts against elite competition that is long gone. Not even the upper elite shut out teams as routine. But they play hard and create havoc. So that was a nice step in the right direction.
The bad
The bad was actually more if the same.
Offense. Stale. Very.
I understand Wimbush was in his second start but can you honestly say BK and staff put him in the best possible position to succeed? A constant nagging theme under BK.
Moreover if Wimbush was the clear cut #1 QB in camp then our QB depth is pretty sorry.
He was absolutely playing tentative. Terrified of making a mistake. He short hopped more throws the he threw on target. Yes Georgia had pressure however most of those one hop throws could have been steeped into.
I truly believe BK has no sense of feel to the in the moment game decisions.
He goes empty sets at the goaline for years. So last night one thing that would have helped slow the pressure was going five wides. Some two step drop quick deep balls...or more of them. I mean BK never snaps under center so he's already five yards back there. Just the threat. Maybe you get an interference penalty. Possibly complete a deep pass??
Back to the QB situation. I don't care how well Wimbush played in high school or his potential. The lack of experience considered there was another QB across the field last night who was equally inexperienced. They sure looked 180 degrees apart in the confidence department.
Is this going to be another square peg round hole repeatedly week after week?
The defense looks much improved. The offense looks anemic in lieu of the experience level at QB. Sadly.
