He did have a 4 int and 1 pick 6 game... yikes
In his last 14 games, he has thrown 3 or more ints three different times. That's not good is it
I attended an ND vs #6 USC game during the Clausen era … ND was down 7, goal to go with time for one more play. Weis had Floyd, Tate, Rudolph and Duval Kamara on the field. He called a play for Kamara who slipped and fell coming out of cut and the perfectly thrown pass went to … no one.
After the game Weis said it was a great call and should have worked. Sometimes CFB is not about great play calls, especially late in games. Get the ball to your best player. Yesterday in the red zone late that’s a handoff to Estime or another TB run. Freeman said they thought they had tue look they wanted, but when ND player went in motion the SC defender didn’t follow him … he was waiting for a run up the middle and got a gift wrapped TD instead. “Should have worked” … run the damn ball there, big on big.

I am against getting another quarterback via the portal this year unless it is a proven 5 star stud that could win games with his arm and legs. TB can win us games with both his legs and his huge arm. It a lot easier scoring against against an elite defense when they have to cover 50 yards of the field instead of just 20 yards of the field. Although he will not have tremendous experience next year, TB will have been on campus for 2.5 years and we will have two four stars backing him up and one (Steve Angeli) has been on campus for a year and half.
It’s a fair position, even if I don’t agree with it. However, TB has not shown no a “huge arm” … his passing needs a lot of work and maybe he will develop. He has no touch on short throws, gets too many passes batted down with a low release point, and his one deep throw was off the back foot and a better safety picks that off. He’s a work in progress with weird throwing mechanics and not elite arm strength. The other dimension makes him potentially special if he can hold up physically and become a better thrower and eliminate bad mistakes. He won’t get better next year if we don’t play him so it’s a matter of putting your chips on Buchner or someone else. This year we put them on Buchner and lost big when he got hurt and he didn’t get a year of development.
Practice will dictate it but if you had to roll someone out tomorrow and we have Hartman or Buchner, it’s Hartman all day every day
SC defense was bad to begin with then missing half their starters they were awful ….
Buchner throwing 3 picks and giving them 14 points was beyond horrendous
Huge arm? He has a weaker arm than Hartman and Hartman doesn’t have a huge arm

I thought that before this season but he didn’t improve from last year to this year, I don’t trust he’ll improve at all in the next 9 months …. Not sure you can fix that throwing motion 4 years into it
Anyone comparing Buchner w/ Hartman at this point in time is a Buchner fanboy apologist. He has some potential and I love the kid because it seems like he’s a true ND guy, but it’s idiotic to make it seem like it should be a competition based on what we’ve seen on the field from both players. Right now, Hartman is clearly the better qb. That could change based on the lack of true playing time at this level but there’s no comparison right now. He has three years of eligibility so he may be the guy down the road but if it’s a choice right now, it’s a no brainer.
Throwing motion is fine. Play like he did yesterday and fix the mental errors he'll have a monster year
First game of his career he played with a legit OL and only for a half of football
I’m hopeful he improves but nd can’t risk it in 23… Hartman is easy choice and let Buchner play too with packages
Open completion in 24 with Buchner leader as long as he plays good next year with his opportunities

He’s good enough to challenge for the starters role. Good depth in event of an injury. He’s not Trevor Lawrence by any stretch.
He had a decent game(not great by any means). His legs were the part that made him more effective. His arm alone isn’t stellar, that’s for sure.
So I want to be clear... You wanted them to run, but blame the QB for a Crowded crossing play when opposing defense is gassed.
Buchner should have thrown it away. No doubt.
But the SC defense was done Rees should have pounded that ball in and ran clock. That was a horrid play call.
Both Rees and Buchner went full moron on they play… dude never even left his spot, Buchner just threw it to him

You guys are bashing a 3 time starting sophomore for winning a game where he admitted he made mistakes and was rusty while clamoring for a 6 year guy whose mistakes cost his team two straight games this year.
Fyi Hartman isn't running for two scores like Buchner.
Hartman taking the beating Buchner took likely won't be throwing so great either.

You know Hartman had 11 rushing tds last year 17 in career and almost 1000 yards rushing, with that said he throws for 500 against that secondary and probably 5 passing tds
Hartman can read a d and get line into proper protections… Buchner struggled all 3 games with that this year
Despite Michigan losing right now, how do we pass on JJ McCarthy? That 60 yard bullet is all I need to see from him regarding arm talent. We haven’t had anything like that since Kizer.

Yeah, but you can see McCarthy’s actual arm talent and you can work with that. Pyne/Buchner only wish they could throw like that.
