I’m watching this discussion, loosely put, about the two qb’s that ND just signed out of the portal , viz Hartman and Leonard. And how terrible they are . Well, maybe so but I have yet to see who was so much better out there that ND didn’t land. Or even pursue. Notre Dame has a great offensive coordinator. So If the qb and the offense are terrible, logically the fault lies in the recruiting . How can anyone logically deny this.? Which means , Mr. Freeman , midnight may be coming sooner than you may like.

Kyle McCord
86-127, 67% completion, 1074 yards, 10 TD, 3 INT
on a below average Syracuse team.

I think you mean the fart Brutus lies in the sphincter!

Syracuse did.
Did they offer Leonard ? McCord was run out of Columbus by Ryan Day. Basically told him to shop himself around. Guessing at the time no one on this board would have been all amped up if McCord would have been rumored to have been coming to ND. It's all hindsight and quite disingenuous in my opinion.

Agree. So many people say things like, “well why didn’t we get that guy?” when they would have very likely been underwhelmed or disapproved of bringing that guy in before the season. It’s only after the fact. So irritating.

I only brought it up as the OP asked who else was available, and McCord was. I never mentioned he was better or worse than Leonard. I simply provided his stats with Syracuse to date.

So many on this forum make assumptions when in fact they lack reading comprehension.

I didn’t mean to direct my comment to you at all but was speaking more generally. It’s just that I’ve seen elsewhere people bringing up the whole “what about that guy” or “what about this coach” or “why can’t we just have what they have” (when normally the person wouldn’t want what they have except for this one extra special season).

Agree, it's easy to question after the fact. we all get caught up in it at times, myself included. There are times I feel the coaching staff has had shiny object syndrome with the last two portal QB's.

Again looking at it from after the fact, considering the results they may have been wise to groom the QB's they already had. It's hard for me to believe that Minchey or Angeli, would not have won 9 games last year and gained valuable experience. Now we are in 2024 in a similar situation.

I understand, but in order to win the national championship, the coaches need to bring in the best available talent. They didn’t know that they were going to go 9-3. How would Angeli have faired against OSU last year? We’ll never know, but I think the odds are in favor of Hartman leading the team to a win over Angeli. Same with the Duke game.

I think ND had the talent to go 12-0 last year. Ohio State was about as close as you can get to winning. They were right there in the fourth quarter in the Clemson and Louisville games. They didn’t get it done and not so much because of talent.

I fully support getting the transfers in 2021, 2023, and 2024. I wish they had gotten one in 2022. Perhaps they beat Marshall and Stanford as well as OSU and USC.

Man it sucks they lost to NIU. Should be 4-0 and sitting pretty.

I think most agree to quit the 1-year rental at QB. Many feel the best QB on the roster was recruited out of high school, whether it be Angelli, Minchey or Carr. I’d rather go through growing pains losing to MAC teams with a guy who’s got a few years of eligibility remaining. I hated it with Hartman, hated it with Leonard. You want to build a team/chemistry? Build within

Hartman wasn’t terrible. He helped us win games last year and he’s in the NFL.

Yikes....what a great call there

🤣🤣🤣
Yea it is. Have you seen McCords stat line.
65.6 completion percentage, 2,160 passing yards, 19 passing TD's 6 INT's

Leonard working with far better talent.
66.7 completion percentage, 1182 passing yards 6 passing TD's 3 INT's.

Yeah but you are forgetting all the "POTENTIAL" and very likely a first round draft pick, LMFAO

They are both average QBs, nothing special about either one. RL has 6 passing TDs, thats less than 1 a game along with an average of 168 yards passing a game. Now thats some serious NFL 1st round talent right there. Keep up the great analysis Mel! NFL teams will soon be knocking on your door for a GM position.

Last time I checked, a rushing touchdown counts for the same amount of points as a passing one. Maybe that was changed

Is RL out for the year yet? Isn't it week 8 now?

He had a very bad game vs Pitt. RL had a bad game vs NIU. Again, RL is working with much better talent around him.

That's all fine. But you jumped the gun way too soon. Have to let the season play out before deciding who is better or who would be better for Notre Dame

I would take RL because of our OL and Mccord lacking mobility. I'm glad we passed on Mccord

I really wonder if you guys are hoping for a loss here.

Are you gonna be pissed if RL leads us on a 10 game win streak, an 11-1 record, and a playoff birth?

What are you gonna say then?

"But you said 1st round". Blah blah blah.

Leonard is playing really well, the O is playing well, and you guys hate it.

No I didn't, McCord is a better QB. He's got no where near the resources RL has around him on the offense.

Absolutely NOT. I'd love for RL to be a great QB for ND and lead them to 11-1 and into the playoffs. Unfortunately he can't throw the ball downfield with any zip or accuracy. This is going to be a problem when we need points fast. We are giving golson $hit because he claimed he was going to be this great QB and be a first round draft pick. Anyone who watches ND games can see this isn't the case. RL is a really good runner who can't throw downfield. This is obvious to any ND fan who watches the game except one(golson5)

1. Golson said that last spring/summer
2. Dozens of publications said that along with Golson (they've been cited on this board)
3. People are tired of you hi-jacking threads, so that you can "give people shit".

You jump from thread to thread looking for fights w a few people. You add nothing to the board from a content perspective.

You have to be a kid. Men don't act like this.

Funny shit, golsen gets everything he deserves with his stupid shit about RL and his first round NFL potential.
