If and when the opportunity came up.

Could he be effective in anything but the option? And, could that approach attract blue chip athletes to ND?

Not sure i'm sold on coach Ken. However im sure his recruiting would be excellent for his system. The players would also be well coached and disciplined. Defensively not sure how that would go.

I would be on board for him if he brought in a OC that ran a pro style not option offense. I think he gets more out of less and his teams seem always prepared. Right now anything is better than what we have.

We're not beating sec teams or winning playoff games anyways. At least with Ken, we'll play hard, tough, disciplined, and win the games we're supposed to win. Team would actually be fun to root for, and would win probably 8 or 9 games a year. Every few years, maybe we win 10 or maybe 11.......

I think a modified option with more passing games could work. That's really what teams like Oregon run.

If hoping for the navy coach is what we've come to, then I will lose respect for my college.

Wouldn't mind coach N at ND ... but he being a Mormon already said "no" to BYU. Apparently really loves what he has at Navy, doubt he'd ever leave.

Niamatuololo's players dont quit on him at least. The spread option is the norm and everyone can game plan for it. Ground and pound football is slowly coming back. Alabama does it, michigan does it.... if you get the big athletic lineman you can dominate a team to submission period. I love the option. Worked with tony rice and the wishbone and i would put that 88 team against anyone.

You know, somewhat referenced Defense a while back. May have been BK. Saying, basically, its not focused upon in modern football. May be true. Look at the scores these days. Watched Illinois state championship games this weekend. If you hadn't been watching, you would have thought the scores were from a basketball games.

And Pitt - Cuze ... that was a basketball game played on a 100 yard field in pads.

Exactly...if freaking Tom Osbourne were in his prime today everyone including Bama would be chasing him.

Look at the top preeminent perennial teams

Power football. ❗❕

The pretty trendy football can win games but competing with the elite....it's still power football. not ****ing jet sweeps as our run game.

Navy coach gets my vote I'd love it and you trendy offense loving naysayers...you'd love it too.

No and No. option is for a failed program that will never be anything. No No
Bullshit.
Were you born yesterday? Option football won many upon many championships.

You personally piss and moan about option football because YOU hate it.

In case you didn't know that option football kicked our ass this year and constantly gives us fits.

Answer me this....

You sound like someone who would rather lose as long as it's pretty football in your eyes...than win using whatever means necessary.
Is that true?

We will be navy we won't win more games that we are now. We will not recruit 4 star players. Its a terrible system for under powered teams. If it were that great it would have stayed with most of the programs out there. They left it for a reason. Only teams that can not win want to go to it and fans who see we got beat by a mediocre at best navy team. Yea it kicked our ass however it was a terrible coach who can not stop option football. Good coaches will beat it every time. it sucks. my guess the navy coach is only good because he has systemized it and plays mostly average at best teams or teams with bad coaches like the irish. tom herman if he were a good coach would beat that high school offense every game. That is why I am not impressed with tom herman.

If you're saying Alabama is primarily a running team, that would be incorrect. They run the ball 59.5% of the time. They're pretty balanced.

As for your comment about putting the '88 team against anyone, that was almost 30 years ago and football has changed quite a bit since then. Would you put a Rockne or Leahy-coached team up against anyone today?

Pull stats all you want... Alabama is sending offensive linemen and RBs to the draft bc they will run it down your throat and make teams like it. They dont send qbs or receivers minus Amari C.

I never said one thing about a team from the 30s-40s geez. For you to sit there and say Rice, Brown, Zorich, Stonebreaker, Watters, Lyght, and the early 90s players werent good in their prime is insane. Rocket is still considered one of the fastest players to play ever.

The option is a great offense of ground and pound, misdirection, and assigned blocking. Granted it is an offense where ALL 11 have to play hard every play and execute consistently bc its assignment football. If Nick Saban wanted to all-of-the-sudden change his offense to option style like Navy, i would guarantee you he wouldnt miss a beat bc he demands perfection in hisself, his staff, and players. Thats why he wins 99% of his games.

Where did I mention specific players? I was referring to the type of offense ND ran at that time.

As for the comment about the 30s-40s. I was making an analogy. You understand analogies, right?

Youre point is like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest, hows that analogy. They ran a very good offense with a a dual threat QB, great RBs, good o line and good receivers. Why couldnt they win today. The coaches of then could gameplan for todays offenses without a doubt.

You could very well be right about that, but nowadays how many teams really play good defense? You can count them on one hand IMO. Now, with that said, those are the teams that wind up playing for the Natty. Those are the Alabamas and Ohio States of the world along with a few others from year to year.

Defense is the key.

ND is also sending OL to NFL who are doing well, and there seem to be prospects for more in the Spring. Likewise, Riddick and Prosise are getting time and fair success. Alabama RBs may be underperforming compared to expectations. Even Barrett Jones, the Rimington winner from Alabama, is no longer in the NFL.

Speed and size today would dominate.
