More Speculation of ND to Big 10

What would be interesting is why Notre Dame joined the AAU. Wonder if Swarbrick will say anything.

Just how important is this outside of the Big 10 speculation?

Was this the reason or was there others?

No $hit! Well they kind of are since they have to play 5 teams every year. I'm talking all the other sports not football.
Well , do you think the BIG10 is going to just let ND join the conference for all sports except football? Your comment about joining the conference is ridiculous.

If the goal is to win natty’s I like it from a football perspective. Winning 3 games in a row vs top 12 teams is going to be an enormous ask if we stay independent. and we keep SC on schedule and will play Michigan/ OSU frequently. Much better conference then ACC and better chance of winning the conference then being in SEC.

How can you like it ?

ND enjoys special status in the current arrangement, which they would lose if they join a conference.

ND wouldn't just lose their independence, they’d lose their national footprint and National exposure by becoming just another regional team.

My guess is that ND will never join a conference as long as Jack remains as AD.

GO JACK, GO IRISH ☘️

Hope we can stay stubbornly independent. But there are headwinds! Future of ACC as a viable conference; degree to which the mega conferences influence to minimize our eligibility to compete for a NC; and the size of the gap between what dollars we get as a mega conference member vs what we can get as an independent. I Think the headwinds will ultimately prove too strong.

I don’t think we would lose our identity or national recruiting footprint at all. Currently every Catholic school in the country is a prime place for us to recruit and that won’t change. The “ special” status we enjoy will change because we will never get a first rd buy with the future 12 team format. What does independence really mean at this point? why will USC or even a Bama who’s on our schedule in a few years want to play us if they already have a number of challenging conference games to play? I think scheduling good teams could become an issue.

No Thank You.

Not interested in being aligned with Michigan.

Hell to the No.

I know the history of our relationship with the Big 10, and participate in the collective hate for Michigan. That said, I wish we still played Michigan annually. I think the Big 10 makes more sense as a destination than any other Conference right now, but still prefer our independent status.

No Thank You.

Not interested in being no different than Iowa, Northwestern, or Rutgers.

Again. Hell to the No.

With the ridiculously expanded playoffs coming, making them no longer is going to be hard for Notre Dame.

So that argument is a turd now that we need to be in a conference to make the playoffs.

Actually now we are better off then we have been in years as an Independent.

Agree…as presently constructed.

The ACC's good for some sports, though. Take lacrosse, for example. The ACC's the best conference in that.

Also, for recruiting purposes for football, the ACC affiliation is useful. It gives us good inroads to the fertile Virginia to Florida corridor.

Making the playoffs will probably get easier but winning it will get harder.

A lot of idle speculation and rumors. ND does not need to join the Big 10.
These pop-up media outlets are often mouthpieces for the people in power. IT is clear that Swarbrick is floating out test balloons for ND to the BUG. Notice how you never read speculation about ND to the SEC.

I think it is important to us to keep playing regular games in the talent rich South. That means we need to stay with Miami, FSU, Clemson, GaTech, North Carolina (any), and Virginia.

ND no longer has a lock or first bite at Catholic High Schools players.

Bye or no bye isn’t the issue, the issue is qualifying for the CFP.
in order to win the NC you have to get into the playoffs, first, and then you have to beat every team you play.

Once you join a conference you have to play the required number of conference games and that automatically converts ND from a National player to a Regional player, ergo less National exposure, ergo a recruiting disadvantage.

USC and Alabama will always want to play ND because ND remains relevant in the college football landscape and playing ND maximizes revenue and exposure for those schools.

That is not clear !

However, Jack has been clear in opposing ND joining a conference

ND has always played in every region of the country, ergo joining a conference would put a serious limitation on scheduling.

I think he has been ambivalent at best. He signed the first contract committing the football team to play against a certain conference. HE moved Hockey into the BUG. His statements all leave him an out to move us into the BUG.

His statements regarding joining a conference for football are crystal clear, he doesn’t want to join a conference !

With regard to football, there is no ambivalence in his statements !

"Ambivalent...." my ass. Jack Swarbick is on record on multiple occasions that he wants absolutely nothing to do with the football team being in the BIG 10.

When someone says the same thing many times in many ways over many years only a moron would say he is not clear or ambivalent. Put the dunce cap on.

You must have believed GW Bush wanted to stay out of foreign entanglements.

You sound like someone dumb enough to believe the MSM.
Let me guess, you think 9/11 was a government plot and the world is actually flat.

Jack has been very clear as to his preference, but he hasn’t ruled it out as some here are suggesting:

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick gave ESPN three reasons that would entice - or maybe even force - the Irish to join a conference.
“The three things that would make continuing as an independent unsustainable would be the loss of a committed broadcast partner, the loss of a fair route into the postseason, or such an adverse financial consequence that you had to reconsider,” he said.

I'm not crying. Just a comment. Political commentary on either side of the aisle has zero business here. None.
Baby. Ignore it if it hurts your little feelings so much.
