Dillon was not dumped but he was also not guaranteed to be a RB at Michigan. UM wanted him to consider LB. Boston College has promised to use only at RB - hence the flip.

Not idea why ND doesn't promise the kid a shot to play running back and switch him to linebacker by his junior year if it doesn't work out... Some kids are stubborn (ala Anthony Barr) but down the road they understand what's in the heir best interest and they become great players.

This plus he visited on the same weekend (last weekend) as the #1 player and thus # 1 RB Najee Harris. Thought the backfield could potentially be too crowded and the path to the field (at RB) was more assured at BC.
