ND raced out to a 6 - 0 lead early in the 1st quarter and I thought it was going to be another blowout win for the Irish. But GT started to play defense and started to pick away at our lead ... actually tied us 6 - 6 in the 2nd quarter, but ND got the last 2 goals in the half to go in at 8-0.
3rd quarter was scoreless for both teams.
4th quarter saw ND stretch it's lead back to 2 or 3 goals ... but GT kept coming back and got to 10 - 9 with under 3 minutes remaining. Kavanagh got our last goal to make it 11 - 9 and we were able to hold on for the win.
Not sure if GT's defense is that good (because I didn't watch), but they forced us to make 13 turnovers ... we had a total of 20 turnovers, while we only forced them to make 5. Our goalie did his job and got 16 saves on GT's 25 shots on goal. ND only managed 16 shots on goal and made 11!
ND also won there face-off battles, winning 16 of the 23 face-offs. Winning face-offs is often a key to winning games, but our 20 turnovers kind of negated that.
