When the NFL season started the pariah of this board created post after post ridiculing the performance of Jameis Winston as compared to Markus Mariota. Abruptly those criticisms faded. Why? Well let's take a look:

Tennessee Titans: Markus Mariota went 3 and 13, worst team in the league. Fired their coach and replaced him with an existing coordinator. About the only good news for the Titans is they will get the #1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston went 6 and 10 and was lauded as a hero for bringing the worst team in the league out of the doldrums and showing his teammates how to win. The Bucs also fired the head coach and replaced him with their offensive coordinator.

Life is difficult in the NFL for coaches that don't produce wins and don't do it in a hurry. It will be interesting to see just how these two teams and their new coaches fare in 2016. Regardless, chances are that both QB's will remain in place.

Luv your humor Alice...........got a laugh outta me this morning. Just couldn't resist if you know what I mean! ha ha ha :)

I'm sorry, I'm confused, this has to do with ND football...how?

Honestly, the only thing it has to do with ND and/or CFB would be one statement which universally applies to both the NFL and CFB:

"Life is difficult in the NFL/CFB for coaches that don't produce wins and don't do it in a hurry."

It seems like the amount of time allotted for coaches to achieve success in CFB is longer than in the NFL. In the NFL the litmus test for coaches is to make the playoffs. In CFB lately it seems to be getting more and more that way.

I expect that the Titans will look to trade the #1 pick. When you need a lot of help, but you have your QB, better to trade down and get multiple picks.

I was troubled by the Lovie Smith firing. The Bucs made great strides this season, were really improved. Isn't that what a coach is supposed to do? The Glazer family is enamored with the Dirk Koetter/Jameis Winston OC/QB combination and were afraid of losing Koetter to another team. So boom, bye bye Lovie. Really unfair.

Agree............and it came as a shock to just about everyone interested in football..........so, it kind of makes you wonder if there wasn't something else to it? While CFB is tough.........really tough sometimes, the NFL by contrast can be cruel.......totally dog eat dog with a lot of very big and unpredictable ego's involved.

He was last seen at the 30 second mark being "hopnored" at a horse racing event.

With regard to Mariota:

He was injured on two separate occasions and that was a concern of some for him in the NFL. Would he be able to withstand the level of physicality in the league? The jury is still out for MM and that is a big question.

The NFL is very tough on QB's especially on teams that are struggling to rebuild. It becomes a war of attrition gradually reducing the QB's effectiveness through sustained attacks and pressure. It truly is survival of the fittest.

How about head to head how did that turn out?

It appears quite clear that M. Mariota will have a better career than Winston.

At seasons end he has a higher QB rating, passed for more yards on a much poorer team and was a tremendous teammate.

Winston was good, but Marcus was excellent and his minor injuries were, well, minor which will have little or no impact on his future.

Would any GM take Winston over Marcus Mariota after this season? Not if he wanted to keep his job!

Head to head? Marcus was the star and Winston was slow, inaccurate and over-rated!

The jury is still out. It's all about the W's and L's there Argusman...........LOL!

You don't fool anybody...............why even bother...............name changes............LOL get real!

Argus man? My God you are stupid!

Actually the jury is in. Mariota has potential to be a superstar and is a good person. Winston is decent but may well rob a bank and rape the teller!

Mariota will probably turn out to be the better QB simply because he is a better person. Now that is not without exception (Rothlessberger the Rapist is a very good QB) but most of the time it is true. The crab thief et all will sooner or later do something and in the NFL anymore that will get him taken down. Now QBs get more leeway (witness the stupidity that is Johnny Football) but sooner or later if you are a thug or like that it will get out and you will go down.

by the way most of the NFL think that Mariota will be the better QB all in all; the character defects that Winston has is only part of the problem. He simply does not have the personal discipline that Mariota has.

I get a kick out of people who look at the two, forgetting the fact that Winston is a bum, and can't see Marcus Mariota as better in all aspects of the game.

Speaking of bums: Holy Smoke, Epiticus. Big Fella, Timmy terrific and the list goes on and on. And all the time it's a case of John Hinckley, JR. meets Sybil with DID (Dissociative identity disorder) or Multiple Personality Disorder.

The gig's up Argus!

The only gig that is up is that you are a moron who knows nothing about sports and trolls a Notre Dame board in a sick attempt to prove some sort of relevancy.

To prove the point you appear to disregard their play and take Winston over a far better player and person, Marcus Mariota!

What is the longest amount of time that you have chased your shadow?

Did this hurt?

Imagine what Argusman's kids say............"Yeah, the old man thinks up weird names and posts on a Notre Dame message board where he never went to school and talks to himself using different handles like Argusman, Epiticus, Holy Smoke, Tim terrific, Big fella and a whole bunch of others. Yeah, he's a sick-o alright......flipped out."

Such is life for the guy who couldn't get into the U. of Missouri and ended up going to NW Missouri State called Missouri Teachers College back when he attended. While hiding behind his cyber shell of anonymity any ND connection is a pretense.

Argus et al,..................estranged by family.

I think I have eight posters on hold and they're all the same person.

Ask yourself, who would you want to be the fact of your team:

1. Marcus Mariota- higher rated after one year, a better passer, a better runner who was rated 17 of 32 qbs after one year in the NFL. Also, he is tremendous young man of high character .

or

2. Winston - an immobile quarterback who often makes poor decisions and is rated 27 of 32 qbs after one season. A bum by most most every description and of the lowest character.

Easy, you decide!

Hey, it's "Argie" talking to himself again! Bwahahahahahah!

Argus....big fella.....et al...............estranged by family and all.

Here's a brief summary of JW's rookie year in the NFL:

Set three NFL rookie passing records. Is a Rookie of the Year finalist and was selected to the Pro Bowl.

Not too bad for a guy that was drafted by the consensus worst team in the NFL! ;)

And Mariota is rated higher and never raped anyone!

So says the Maryville teachers college loser that makes up different names on the internet and even talks with himself.

Hated by all and estranged by family.

Looks like the Pro Bowl committee thinks very highly of Jameis Winston who replaces Tom Brady!

So does everyone else in the NFL. As much as he improved dramatically over the course of the season, what surprised most NFL insiders is how quickly he became the vocal leader of the Bucs on the field.

twalsh,

That is true. Winston constantly went up and down the bench during games and goaded and cheered his team mates on. And he completely took over in the locker room. And eventually the players began to believe in him and to play at a much higher level. Winston is being credited with completely turning the team around and teaching the players how to be winners. Quite an accomplishment for a 21-year-old! When it comes to being a leader you've either got it or you don't.
