Here are tonight's Lucky Charms...
*** As I've touched on a few times, Notre Dame had a very small camp to go along with the "grill and chill" cookout event on Tuesday. I've only confirmed five players that participated in the camp portion but I'm sure there were a few others as well. I want to start with the player who I heard really blew the coaching staff away, and that's Irvington (N.J.) High class of 2023 safety Adon Shuler. I believe he went from a player who the Irish were a bit in "wait and see" mode with to a top of the board target. He measured in at 6-0, 190 pounds and has a long wingspan. He ran around and moved very well. I spoke with Shuler tonight, and the Irish will be tough to beat in this recruitment. He loved everything about the visit.
*** I'm told Notre Dame was extremely impressed by Texas native Malik Muhammad, a four-star class of 2023 cornerback. He's a prospect with 39 scholarship offers per Rivals and proved to the Irish staff why he's so coveted across the country. Notre Dame loved Muhammad, and in my conversation with the four-star recruit (story will be posted tomorrow morning), it seemed the Irish made a big move for him as well. Muhammad holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and many others.
*** Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy class of 2023 defensive back Moussa Kane left South Bend without an offer from the Irish, but I'm told he performed well at this workout as well. Basically, the DB prospects just went through various defensive back drills and did some testing. Kane is someone I believe the Irish staff will end up offering. The likes of Clemson, Penn State and Virginia Tech have already extended scholarships to him.
*** Of course, Maize (Kan.) High class of 2023 quarterback Avery Johnson threw for Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and Co. When he threw some routes on air, his receiver was Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic class of 2024 tight end Jack Larsen. I heard Larsen did well, but I doubt the Irish will offer any 2024 tight end recruits any time soon. As far as Johnson goes, a source told me that Johnson can "zip it" but his best attribute at this point is his athleticism. There may have been a better natural thrower of the football or two who camped with Notre Dame last month, but Johnson has an "it" factor to his game overall.
*** Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas class of 2023 safety King Mack visited on Tuesday, and he told me that Notre Dame rose to the top spot in his recruitment. I'll have a full story on him in the coming days. Florida, Miami and Penn State are a few of the notable offers for Mack early on. It'd be very interesting to see if Mack actually does decide to end his recruitment sooner than later. Would the Irish be in a position to take him?
*** The big group from PPI recruits, a European organization that promotes recruits to play college football, made it to Notre Dame today as planned. I plan to catch up early next week with Brandon Collier, the founder of the organization, for a podcast. He sent a message to me today saying that the experience at Notre Dame was "amazing." Collier tweeted that the Irish really liked class of 2022 outside linebacker Kofi Taylor-Barrocks, who earned an offer from Michigan State this week after a strong camp performance. Many of the prospects from PPI are in the 2022 class and on defense, and I'm just not sure the Irish would have room for any of these guys, but we shall see.
I am told that 2022 Rivals100 DT Hero Kanu made it in today but I do not have any details yet on how the visit went.
