There is some scuttlebut on other sites that he is looking to transfer and Kelly is trying to talk him out of it. Anyone know what is going on here?

Hmmmm.....he has clearly been a key contributor---when healthy. Given his concussions he should be VERY focused on getting an ND degree...IMO.

Hope he stays as well, but there is a lot of talent coming in along with Jones at this position. Could very well be influencing his decision.

It wouldn't shock me given what Jones was able to accomplish. and doesn't Notre Dame have a five star Tight Ensalready committed for 2017?

No reason for him to leave ND. I always wanted to see him play defense . He came to ND as a TE/OLB. He is not much of a receiving TE but can block . WHy not move him to DE in the Spring.? I remember Frank Stams moved from FB to DE and was a key player in 1988.

It does look like he may have been better used on the D-line, but it's too late for that now. I think we can all agree he's a helluva blocker. He is big, strong, and wide, which no LB wants to take on. But when it comes to route running and catching the ball he looks stiff and awkward. I hope this is just a rumor and that's the end of that.

I would imagine he has his own dreams. He may harbor a dream about the NFL and wants a greater chance to highlight himself and may want to continue to impress at the TE position. If he does believe he can achieve his goals at Notre Dame, then why not consider other opportunities.

I hope Kelly can work his magic and keep Luatua in the fold. Luatua is a stud and has two years experience. We need depth to get a championship---less turnover the better.

Luatua can show his skills best at ND. Period !! He has two more years !! Why don't you stay just a little bit longer.. Please please stay-- say you will !! Jackson Brown !

Not sure about that. He wants to be a receiving TE and it's not gonna happen at ND. If his future is NFL, he is better off transferring. With all his concussions though,an ND degree would help. It's his future not ours.'

I know its his future not ours. And that is why I think it would be better for his NFL aspirations to stay at ND. Just my opinion. Why is your opinion on Tyler Luatua going somewhere else more in his interest than my opinion?

Zero receptions in a pass happy offense? Very difficult to understand especially when TE's on other teams are turning into pass catching super stars!

As our last 4 or 5 tight ends have proven!!

Luatua is more of a blocker than a receiver. Every player has their own strengths/weaknesses.

That's a big one dimensional problem in the red zone as he is not a screen/other receiver threat, yet...

He's a big body and he can catch... "Ranked as 38th best player nationally by Tom Lemming/CBS"

HS - "made 33 receptions as a senior in 2013 for 412 yards and four TDs ... caught 43 passes for 594 yards and eight TDs as a junior in 2012"

I hope it's just rumors and that kelly can get him in the mix. He's a tank.

Not clear if directed to me or not. I have no opinion about will be his best option, but he has few, if any, receptions at ND so he may be thinking it may be better for him to be in a situation in which he can get more involved in the offense to show productivity if he wants to impress a scout. I could understand how a player with little tangible productivity in his current situation may consider his options; the decision is all his.

Sure...........given that he was a pass catching super star in HS it is easy to understand his frustrations. Chances are he would once again be a super star in a lot of other different situations. It will be interesting to see what he does (or doesn't) do.

I hold out hope for all our guys, but at 6'-2" I think its gonna be tough competition to become a Red Zone receiving threat in our throw-it-up-for-grabs-in-the-corner-of-the-end-zone system.

Yep, I am thinking more dump screen/decoy out of the backfield stuff...

If his dreams are to play in the NFL, where else would make that more likely to happen? ND starting TEs do very well, even if not proven (Niklas). If you can't start or be a major contributor at ND, can you make an NFL roster?

The guy is gone give it up

Damn. This is disappointing
Disappointing? What has he done? He has proven to be good blocker. He came in a highly rated recruit but doesn't fit into the all around player at the position. I wish him the best but he would have trouble seeing field next year in this offense with the other TE's on the roster.

I guess you're the kind of person who wants to dismiss a player after only 2 years if they haven't given you All-American numbers by then. There's always the possibility of a player blossoming in his junior and senior years, which tends to happen in most cases. And ND now only has 3 TEs. Suppose 1 or 2 of them get hurt? That doesn't bode well from a depth perspective, especially since ND is not getting a TE in this class. So yeah, I'm disappointed.
