With Jonathan Quick on long-term IR and Jack Campbell out for 4-to-6 weeks with a knee injury, former Notre Dame goalie Cal Petersen earned his first call to the NHL today when the Los Angeles Kings summoned him from their AHL affiliate in Ontario, California. As far as I can tell, if/when he makes his Kings debut, he'd be the first ex-Notre Dame goalie to play in the NHL.
Theoretically, he's the backup to Peter Budaj, but I can't imagine the Kings not giving him an extended look what with that team going literally nowhere right now -- they're the worst team in the league and undoubtedly have a massive rebuild on the horizon.
