Herbstreit disclosed today that it's been a tough year for him and his family behind the scenes. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, Ben died, and he said his son Zak being on the field as a Grad assistant for Ohio State after having to stop playing and almost having to have a heart transplant two years ago really came full circle for him last night.

He’s an Ohio state player. I have no issues with him. Generally I think he is good. If ND wins the game then this thread would not exist. He loves his school and team. Nothing wrong with that.

Damn, a lot of Kirk Herbstreit hate. He's pretty genial, and inoffensive. Presumably why he's lasted this long. You can't have somebody all partisan in the TV booth for a national audience. Crying, and become lachrymose, is a little much. Especially considering what a dominant juggernaut tOSU is as a program, this is not some cinderella story. I guess he just loves his Buckeyes. He's a bucknut!

Well, can't say about that ND fans and any former players that rise to that level in the broadcasting/punditry world. Our fans long, and pine for an ex-player to take over for our home games, which are national broadcasts, I guess because they can't stand, whoever it is, Doug Flutie, anybody who betrays even the slightest hidden animus for ND, however illusory or not it may be. Maybe that's why you don't care for Herbie, because he has to be dispassionate, and can't show favoritism. And blah, blah, blah he never shuts up even though it's his job to talk.

That would be funny if he was all laconic and barely spoke. And there was like, long silent stretches. Herbie, you still there?? But with modern technology, you just tune into your local homer radio feed, and mute your TV. And ND's is pretty awesome. With Ryan Harris, he's great.

No, I dont care about bias, I mean the dude is human he went to tOSU and his kid was just on that team. I work with a guy that talks ALL day and never shuts up, kind like if a shark stops swimming it dies. Kirk is like that to me, he talks just to talk.. Ironically my new favorite commentator (doesn't call games) is Jake Butt.
