I grade the Irish killer Instinct at a B last year. The highest grade I have given the Irish since 1993.

B won't cut it though. To get to the next level and make the playoffs the Irish have to up that grade to A- at least.

The highest grade I gave any player last year was an A- to Quenton Nelson. He plays with a bada$$ intensity.
I get he will get an A this year. I think McGlinchey and Hunter Bivin and Drue Tranquill are also tough players.

I think Malik Zaire has a killer instinct also.

I hate to say this and I know I am going to get a lot of flack but Corey Robinson is an example of a great ND man and represents a lot of good about ND but he lacks killer instinct and many times he lacks focus on football. Golden Tate HAD THE KILLER FOOTBALL INSTINCT !
So did Chris Zorich ! So did Ross Browner !! So did Willie Fry !! So did Mike Stonebreaker !! So did Todd Lyte !! So did Tony Rice !! So did Kevin Macdougal !! So did Aaron Taylor !! So did FASANO !!

You get my drift !! To win a championship the Irish need to get Tougher !! That's how Notre Dame used to beat the super talented USC's and Alabamas and Miami FLA and Florida States of yesteryear !! Sure the Irish had talent back then but more importantly they had toughness and heart that could beat teams that were even more talented !!

Play clean but show no Mercy !! Think bloodying up and bruising the opponent!! Think Football !! Think victory !! Better yet, don't think much at all !! Just practice hard during the week and be Killing machines game day !! GO IRISH !! Beat Texas !! Beat the livin crap out of those bastards !!

Bodi, spot on. ND has too many football players who have a choir boy type personality. We need some players who have an "edge" about them - not dirty - just a good edge or chip on their shoulders. The best football teams have a number of players who have a "step on your throat" mentality when they get a lead. We need some team leaders who have this in them - because then it can become infectious.

That has been the biggest enemy of ND over the last decade -- the teams never seem to have that killer instinct to put someone one away when they have the foot on the throat.
Part of that comes on the coaching staff too -- they are the ones who need to instill it.

Bodi, totally agree. I think we will see this in spades with our offensive players this year, starting obviously with the left side of the OL. I think we'll see more of this from our linebackers this year, but the one guy I hope to see play with a newly developed attitude on defense is Tillery. He has the size and technique and athleticism to dominate, but seems more interested in being a renaissance man than a bad ass football player.

Mike McGlinchey has had "it" since he arrived. I'm hoping he is named a captain.

Not worth getting into a semantic argument. You can teach someone to kill, which is what this thread is about. An instinct is something with which you are born.
