Ken Niumatalolo as HC

Yeah...crazy, I know. But I like him. Would love to see ND try and get him. Does A LOT with limited talent at Navy!
Ask Georgia Tech fans what it's like trying to recruit top level offensive players to that offensive system. Rightly or wrongly, the belief is that the triple option will NOT prepare you to play at the next level, and kids who have designs on the NFL, which is 95% of four and five star recruits, don't want to play in it.

Cut block goes on every where. Short yardage situation in NFL...option teams, etc.

They will never outlaw it because as long as the three point stance exists it's virtually impossible to police it. They can police the chop block because of engagement by a player and a second cuts him...sure. but to outlaw cut blocking in a one vs. One setting in the trenches is impossible.

Short yardage plays low man wins...etc.

So while you think you know so much of how the outcomes would be in a hypothetical situation...that's not one of them.

Moreover if you think option football is so far removed from pro ball....in regards to everyone not the qb, you are right this Convo is over.

Matter of fact you telling everyone that cut blocking is soon to be illegal tells me exactly how very little you know on the subject of football.

And BTW...you love writing a book on here but you ought to try reading a little. I clearly state to you that any coach and it's energy can radiate onto its players ....in other words ...contagious...yes that's a great thing.

Your earlier post told us all how we need to get a coach to make them mean.

You want mean kids...recruit for it. You don't coach them mean.

I've got three sons and all very competitive...but one in particular played with his hair on fire all the time. Not because of any coach saying something or even actions.

It's just his makeup.

So yes its his energy that was contagious to his peers but only so much.

The fire in the belly is there or not.

You don't coach it.

Having coached hundreds of kids at the high school and university levels, I have a completely different feeling the matter. I've seen dozens of kids that were shy, to mind and soft, grow into tough kids before they left. Sometimes it's a product of age and growing into it. At other times it's a product of physical development through getting bigger and stronger and the confidence that comes with that. And others still, it's the manifestation of indoctrination. Some kids simply refuse to let down their teammates and will do whatever is neccessary to be 1/11th. If that requires them to find a toughness in them that they didn't even know they had, they find it.

Obviously some kids are shaped in a manner that makes them predisposed to toughness. We've all seen that. But acquisition and development toughness does not have one formula. The same way a kid can grow up in a tough environment and become forged tough because of it, the same thing can happen spending 4-5 years in a college program that enstills toughness.

You can argue that Georgia Tech isn't Notre Dame, but Paul Johnson was Ken Niumatalolo before Niumatalolo.

There were a ton of dopes that wanted paul johnson because they enamored with the triple option and navy's success . I would prefer power / pro set type offense. basically what USC did in the day. to say Ken N would be great is pure nonsense. Not saying he is not a good coach but that is not an offense for school like notre dame competing at a high level.

For years, one of the excuses for poor teams at Nd was that " Admission Standrds were too High for ND
to Recruit Top recruits ."
Given that Navy can also not recruit top recruits , in fact , they have a much, much smaller recruiting base than just about any other teams in the coutry, but still put out tough, never say die teams, and score
lots of points.
Even , with ND high admission standards, Any coach at ND has a much larger recruiting pool to recruit from than the Service Academie have.
Giving a bigger recruiting pool of more talented athletes, I think that Coach N certain can and will add a passing game to go with his Option game, and with the bigger stronger players that he can bring in, a top defense
is also quite possible !
I too prefer power over finess, and even when Lou ran option, his option was also power
because he had a top power, smsh mouth OLine. His backs and Full backs also pounded
people into the ground .

the

Holtz was a diminutive but very fiesty guy!
teams will generally take on a personality reflective of their coaches vision.
Lou had some tough teams!

But, we are now in the era of 'Fancy Nancy' - the name is all you need to know!

See Johnson at GT. No.

Perhaps, Just perhaps ? Coach N is a better coach than Coach Johnson ?
After all every person has his own abilities.
While I think Lou was a great coach, Urban has had far greater success than Lou. Sometimes, the student has more success than his teacher

Weren't there about fifty of Earl Red Blaiks' football players, including his son, caught in a famous cheating scandal. I think Vince Lombardi was an assistant there at the time. Late forties early fifties iirc. Nothing new under the sun!

You are correct about that scandal ! All the Cadets were expelled ! Blaik was not happy about the expelsions
but, never the less, they were expelled. The article also gives some interesting fact about the expelled
students. One of them went on to win the Medal Of Honor in Viet Nam.
Another-of the expelled players was the sure Heisman Trohpy Winner that year, but since he was expelled, he could not win the Trophy.

Flexbone? You would be lucky to land one 3 star player running that system. It's a gimmick offense designed to bleed the clock.

Nobody of any consequence wants to see that offense, play in that offense or be around that offense

Ken N to ND is just a poorly thought out and pitiful idea. Period.

One 3-star player??? Bwahahaha! Moron...

Coach ken? Is that how far ND football has fallen? Yea I know he beat Houston but come on. Players don't want to play for that offense. How many players do they put in the league? How about we get the army coach or maybe the head coach for Buffalo.

Maybe so...but compared to the guy who suggested Ken Niumatalolo to ND? I am an off the charts genius. Stick to what you know best...nothing. Leave football discussions and decisions to people who make them everyday. Putz

Anybody who button bullies anyone over the internet is a puss. Which you no-doubt are. Spare me the tough talk, skippy. You worry me as much as a cloudy day. ;)

Without a doubt. No program remotely interested in winning a National Title would run that system. The idea of the Flexbome at ND lacks seriousness or a shred of common sense. Total waste of a thread. Done and Done

What big time program do you coach again? LOL!! You are a LIAR!

one of the reasons NAVY has had so much success is that so few teams operate that kind of offense that when you play them your D usually only has a week to prepare for a offense that they will only see once a year.

I think a modified type of option would be perfect at ND. One that throws more so that we can get at least decent WR and TE talent. the O line would not change much; and it is not that hard to find QBs that can do it as well. but enough of a difference to most teams we play that they would be very hard pressed to cope.
