You may be right, but I seriously doubt it. I think Kelly gets this mulligan year. But, he can't have back to back years like this.

I hate to lose to USC, but if you are correct that that wiill bring us in a new coaching staff,
I'll take that bad tasting medicine to bring about the end to the Kelly disease !

Kelly has improved the program in many area's but he has to be the poorest game day and game day prep coach at ND. I've never seen an ND team so ill-prepared for every game and worst game day coaching at ND. Most of the other coaches at ND that have failed have been because of poor recruiting or player development.

Kelly has done a decent job at recruiting, he's failed to recruit certain positions but good overall, however we are so poorly prepared for each game and the game day coaching is terrible. They make adjustments far to late if at all. They make poor decisions and personnel decisions are atrocious. If they don't make a change I think will speak volumes about the schools commitment to football.

Weis actually did more with less, while Kelly has actually done less with more. It was CW who actually brought recruiting back, after the disaster that was Golfingham. Kelly has recruited well, just look at the numbers that have gone on to the NFL, but he hasn't developed that talent. Dude has got to go.

Well said java! I'm at the point if they bring him back, I'll find another team to root for. Been a fan since 88. If the administration does'nt take a stand now especially if we lose big. Theres no way in my opinion you bring him back! I'm so tired of watching other programs go out and get there guy. People act as if no one will come. I say BS. its NOTRE DAME! And if that doesnt mean anything anymore well its time to move on!

Good riddance.

I think he knows it as well. Irish coaches usually hit the road running to see recruits in California when the season ends. Brian Kelly himself has already said he is coming back to ND for player exit interviews etc. I think the reality is he will walk into his office to find Jack and someone from HR there.

I don't know if that's an indication that he is going to be fired but I did find it odd when he said he was coming back to South Bend following the game when he should be staying at on the west coast recruiting. Something doesn't seem right with that.

A lot on this board will show an uppity attitude about this post and say "good riddance" etc reality is this is the feeling of many ND fans and rightfully so. If Kelly is here for 2017 I will find other things to do and just check in to watch once in awhile. More will do the same. No one likes to be disrespected and that as fans is what is happening if that clown stays to coach

Expected and typical reaction from this poster blind to the insanity that is Kelly and critical of anyone who does not walk the ND plank -- fans have every right to feel how they do and the holier than thou need to come to terms with that. No one is less of a supporter because they have their own way of dealing with a loser of a coach and an admin that appears blind to it all We cope in different ways

Nah, I think that alleged fans that say that they are "going to start following another team" if Kelly is not fired are not ND fans at all. You either are a fan of a school or you are not. It's not dependent on who is coaching the team.

Explain to all of us how you will be "disrespected" if Kelly is on the sidelines in 2017.

As an old alum, and long time fan, I will always follow and root for my team, but I to want him out. Nothing personal against Kelly, I just think he has taken ND as far as he can. If you look at his 7 years objectively, he has done less with more than a lot of coaches before him. It's time for a change.

You are very dense. No where in my post do I say I will support another team. I said I will be disinterested and just check in once in awhile. I said fans cope with the disappointment of Kelly in different ways. Not everyone has to be blindly loyal, some of us are loyal but need to step away for health reasons or to ease the stress. What is hard to understand about that?

And yes, fans are being disrespected because the Admin is so far doing zero about Kelly and gave him a vote of confidence. It is clear to the majority of fans - on this board and elsewhere -- that change is needed and to have an AD say he will bring the clown back is disrespectful of what fans want.

Now, even you who are loyal to a point of walking off a cliff for ND- I think you can admit that you are not happy about Kelly, so just get a grip that not every fan will walk into a wall repeatedly like you will. Some of us will wait for the wall to fall.

I am probably older than you are, but that's a legitimate position. It is not a legitimate position to state that, if Kelly is not replaced, I will go find another team to root for. That's the statement of someone who is not an ND fan at all.

No, you didn't say that---the other poster did. And when I called him out on it, you gave me all kinds of grief.

You don't know what disrespect is. ND shouldn't---in fact no school should make coaching decisions based on what the fans want. No team can function by playing to the opinion of the fans.

They cannot tackle, score in the second half, or do their own homework. Some simple and crucial skills for which a coach should be held responsible.

This and Jarva's post reflect my thinking on this. I understand why some fans will watch ND less, or even follow another team, if Kelly remains and the program remains essentially unchanged. I really want a new HC and the excitement and multiple changes this brings, but I also believe that if Kelly remains, he can get the program back to knocking on the top ten door with a good DC and ST hires. Regardless, I want ND to surprise and play the best game of the year and kick USC's ass!

I always want them to win, but I don't have your faith in Kelly. Without a Teo, what has he been? Mediocre to terrible.

Walruzz..hate playing the side of could of would of should of, etc... BUT, do you really think ND loses to Stanford last year with a good DC? Without that loss, we finish in the top ten, and possibly play in the playoffs. That is the basis for my optimism, even though I prefer a fresh start and different direction for the program next season.

I don't think it really matters who he brings in as DC because Kelly doesn't have a solid idea of what he wants his teams to be on defense or offense. If you don't have an identity how can you make a good hire?

It's been 7 years and for the most part the offense has been bad. We have seen every single QB under Kelly regress dramatically. Excluding last year our running game has been atrocious. RZ offense has been terrible for 7 years. Game day coaching has been extremely poor on offense and defense.

There are many more problems than a DC that have remained unchanged for 7 years. I have maintained for a few years now that Manti Teo was Kelly's Cam Newton.

A non sequitor, but I'll answer. IF we are going to play IFS AND BUTS: Beating Stanford this year MAY have elevated us to mediocre.

Who are you talking about? They are likely on ignore on my end and I can't see.

Former AD Kevin White might dispute that he's the worst ever. Recall his parting comment when Tyrone got the ole heave ho:
"From Sunday to Friday he was the ideal collegiate football coach."

Wrong Fan support is like voter support for a candidate, like marketing support for a product. If you don't know what your fan and alumni base is thinking and you do not care about it, you are ceratin to fail and likely go out of business or lose share. In this case, tv ratings, purchase of licensing items, purchase of tickets, all of this and more are tied to fan support -- the lifeblood of an institution. And it must be factored in to whether it is time to make a coaching change or not. Fans are being disrespected now because they feel they are not being valued by the AD who has publically said the coach will be back That is disrespect.

Java, we agree on most of Kelly's faults. That said, I simply disagree with your view that a good DC won't make a difference. We could waste time and energy debating BVG's impact on ND's performance and records over each of his two plus seasons, but my view is we would have won enough to be a top ten team. I hate Kelly's offense and our inability to run on critical short yardage situations, and our red zone efficiency has been embarrassing, but our offense put up big numbers the past two years in spite of all this. I hope Kelly is let go Sunday and that Jack has a good process underway to name a strong successor shortly thereafter; but absent this, I do believe the addition of good D C and S T coaches can and will make a positive impact next season.

Your entire premise is nonsense. Coaches are not elected by popular vote. And get off the "fans are being disrespected" drivel. You sound like a petulant child.

Go follow the NFL. The NFL would better suit your mentality.

He is done and that is what is right with that.

SkiBro loves the Irish as do I. Why should we be stuck with a bad coach with his players constantly getting in trouble? Every damn year. Even the quarterbacks--Tommy Rees Everette Golson--- The frozen five? The stoned four? Guns. Brian Kelly is not far off Barry Switzer with Oklahoma without the wins. Kelly has got to go. Use a traffic cone as the interim coach

Ara had problems too. He had major suspensions also. Ara had a particularly severe incident while he was HC. It happens to the best. How would Gipp be handled in today's climate?

Unfortunately for us, in today's game, Gipper would play for Bama

I forgot about Prince Shembo and that player who got drunk and threatened cops.. This is not all Brian Kellys fault of course. But there are always big surprises every preseason. It wasn't this bad under Charlie W.. He had a few issues like Ragone smoking pot and some other tight end streaking. Oh I also forgot about the Mike Floyd incidents for Kelly.
