Kelly going forward...

most of us consider ourselves co fans of Army and Navy along with ND and most of us understand the realities of football limitations at the service academies. That realization does not make a fan a 'fair weather' fan. Well a lot of ND fans are getting the understanding of where the dynamic duo of Swarbrick/Kelly are pointing the ND football program andthat reality by itself does not make a fan a 'fair weather' fan.

The ones that are sunshine pumping in a cat 5 superstorm are the kind of 'fair weather' fans that you do not want to be with in an open boat on the high seas! delusion meeting reality!

Fair weather fan? I've been a fan through the Faust, Davie, Ty, Weis and now Kelly years. The fair weather fan is the administration who love the money and are disinterested in results.

This is your statement: "Second week in a row I didn't watch and probably won't watch again next week if it's a nice day." Textbook example of what a fair weather fan is. Care to explain how it's not? Do you even know what the term "fair weather fan" means? Look up the definition of the term and explain how your current behavior deviates from that definition.

Come to think of it, your other statement (in bold above) tells me you don't even know what the term means. The administration is a fair weather fan? That doesn't even make sense

It's you who do not understand the term. A fair weather fan is someone who only follows or supports a team when they are doing well and abandons the team during periods when the team is not winning. I've followed ND, watched every game, gone to games for decades now. I've bought shirts, hats, jackets, and even a tie. I've done all that through some of the worst periods in ND history and I've done so during the Devine and Holtz years. I've seen more down years than up years and I've followed this team.

My quote was satirical. I'll try to refrain from using forms of communication like satire and hyperbole since it's evident your reading comprehension is unable to process these higher forms of communication.

Here is your statement again: "Second week in a row I didn't watch and probably won't watch again next week if it's a nice day."

Satirical? Sure it was. Nice try though. You stated that you didn't watch the Army game and won't watch the Virginia Tech game. Yep, boycotting games when the team is struggling, yet buying ties means you're not a fair weather fan. Right---got it.

You are the same person who thinks that David Shaw and others can be bought off and leave their respective alma maters for more money. Your statement I quoted above is consistent with your beliefs---if you fail to understand how an alum can be loyal to their school, why should I expect you to understand what being a loyal fan is?

Since you want to talk "reading comprehension" and "higher forms of communication," please share where you attended college and which graduate degrees you hold. I'll wait.

I'd like to say, I didn't post the information about having skipped 2 games in a row as a slight at Kelly, Swarbrick or the administration.

What I wanted to point out was that if someone who has been a huge ND fan since the '70s can become disinterested, what about the less avid fans or those fans under 30 that have only ever known a very mediocre program? At some point they will be gone and they won't come back as they will have found other venues to satisfy their entertainment needs. There won't be millions of new ND fans because during their lifetime ND is, "just another program".

other ND fans (I mention them specifically) do 'get' what you are saying; even if they disagree. But there is that contingent of Kelly transients that are not '1st' ND fans but are those that came along with him

Thanks. The ignore feature is great and makes this board readable. I'm a big fan of diverse opinions, it's when it delves into the personal attacks that I cannot stomach.

I honestly believe everybody on this board is an ND fan and wants what's best for the program and school. Sure there are different opinions on how to achieve those ends and I'd argue they all have merit to one degree or another and I can't understand why we choose to "eat our own". Maybe I'm naive but I believe that the people that think Kelly should be fired and those that think Kelly should stay honestly want what is best for ND and I think both opinions are legitimate. I just wish the few on each side the resort to slander and vile language could find better ways of expressing their disagreement.

I haven't seen many glory years at 28 yrs old but can add to the "just dont care as much" discussion. 2012 was a roller coaster but watching Tommy Reese/Golson was terrible. The only true season that stands out to me is 05/06 with brady, jeff, zibs. They had character, moxy, and brought it every week. Kelly's team just never have an identity, they are masters of none. He will be back next year and i doubt 8-4 will get him canned.
