Why would anyone play for this idiot? If Kizer is drafted high it is good for ND. Kelly's idiotic comments after Kizer has already commited for the NFL draft just serve to chase away future recruits.

Hey Dopey,
One of the top classes so far in 2018. Do you have to work hard to be so clueless? I think it comes natural to you. #MAGA

Kelly has been very supportive of a Kizer, even saying previously that he thinks Kizer is the best QB NFL prospect in this class. I personally see nothing wrong with also saying he feels Kizer would have benefited from staying in college another year. He's giving his honest assessment.

A guy answers a question honestly and folks complain ? Should he have lied ? Not answered ?
Yes. I would have lied and said he's NFL ready. Do you think Jurkovec likes hearing him say that? Idk maybe on the one end it's good to be honest, who knows man

If DK stays, perhaps BW leaves.

But that would in now way impact whether it would be better for Kizer to have returned to ND

If the question was "What's best for ND" or "BK, what did you personally want"....that would be a very different story

DK needs another year in college but not under Kelly. I feel his decision is the right one for his NFL future, if the choice is to stay another year under Kelly or go to the NFL.

I agree Tel. If you pump your guys up to NFL execs and don't give an honest assessment, you aren't doing your players any favors either.
Pete Carroll said the same thing about Sanchez. People still love signing up to play for him.

He didn't say anything wrong he gave an honest answer which most likely he had already told Kizer in private.

Kizer is projected as a mid to late round 1 pick but could slide into the 2nd round, if he came back he would most likely be a top 5-10 pick and the money is substantially different. Kizer flashed at times last year but needed another year to get more consistent play.

BK was asked a question on this issue. He answered honestly and without filter.
Nothing wrong with that. If some are butt-hurt over this, so be it.

I'd rather our coach be honest than be a sleazy, lying douchebag that seem to be a dime a dozen in the coaching ranks. Give it to 'em straight, coach!

I'm sure that BK didn't say anything publicly that he didn't already say to Kizer in person.

I agree Kizer would be a better QB if he came back for one more year, but his ultimate draft stock might be similar. The list of guys coming out next year will be stronger than this year.

If Kelly were 11-1 or 12-0 last year no one would have questioned. But with 4-8 and Zaire bolting I can see where his comments are being taken out of context. I think Kelly is looking at what round he will be drafted and overall success in the pros based on his experience level. Kelly is saying with a year under his new staff that Kizer most likely would be more desirable and more likely to step on and succeed with the extra seasoning. Just common sense to me.

Common sense is DK was coming back if Kelly was fired. They didn't mix well together so it's pointless to talk about it. Kelly/Kizer is a toxic pairing.

Russillo and Kanell just played the entire segment that BK did. DO NOT pass judgment on BK until you've listened until the whole piece.

He acknowledged that he supports Kiser leaving from a business perspective, but stated he could use another year to learn more football because the NFL isn't good at developing talent.

I didn't have a problem with it before. Now that I've heard the whole statement, I don't think anyone could've said it better.

I hope Kelly keeps his mouth shut this season so that when he gets fired they don't lose the 2018 class

He didn't say that Kizer sucked and another year would make him great - he said that another year could benefit him, but in the right situation, this could still really work out well for him. I think Kelly is saying is the risk is that Kizer gets pushed to play right away and he may struggle - if a team brings him but gives him a year or so to learn and improve, it will work well for him.

Keep on going - nothing to see here

One ESPN opinion show believes BK is a complete jerk and another ESPN opinion show believes what BK said was fair and honest. Go figure. This is all nothing about nothing.

Be thankful Kizer is gone, hopefully with a successful NFL career.

4-8 is not good enough. Its up to Wimbush and Kelly. Unfortunately, I'm more confident in Wimbush than Kelly, but Kelly is capable, so there's hope.

why did he make the comments now? did he think Kizer would simply come back/
I don't see the purpose of his comments.....

This is only driving Kizer away.

the guy only gave ND everything he had on the field. Whether or not he succeeded.
To just say those things right before the draft.
That pretty classless.

I guess what you think is classless, most other think he is just being honest. And believe it or not, but Kelly is right about Kizer.

Even if he is right.. to make those comments before the draft is wrong.

you can say the same thing differently to get your point across.
We do that all the time..

How do you think Kizer and his family going to take those comments?

I think Kelly was asked a question and he gave an honest answer. I think anyone who watched Kizer last season would also think DK should still be in college. I really don't see a problem with what BK said. What Kelly said isn't going to effect Kizers draft status anyway.

Agree 100%
Why come to the sideline after every series and get screamed at.

The "spin" stops here and with BK. I am sure BK told the kid exactly what he said in the interview. This is a really bad year for draft eligible QB's but think he should have definitely come back.
I like DK and hope he has a great NFL career.

Mike Sanford on DK (Tom Loy interview)

"...He's a guy that I think extremely highly of," said Sanford. "I think he's got all the tools to be an incredibly successful quarterback. I think he's a guy that can go out there and really do something from the very beginning. The thing I think about DeShone that's so impressive is just the intellect that he brings to the game. We put an inordinate amount of stuff on his plate and he was able to go out there and make a lot of plays with as much checking as he did at the line of scrimmage, maintaining protections and managing the run game. His bandwidth is so broad already that I think he's ready to be a NFL starting quarterback...."

Kudos to Sanford! For being supportive.
Those thinking Kelly's comments were not negative in affect, consider that this young man is a month or so from the draft; any comment that is not favorable is not helpful to the kid and certainly not supportive nor necessary; especially from his former coach. Whether there was abscence of malice, the comments were ill timed. Kelly implying DK as 'not prepared' for the draft just prior to the draft cannot be construed as anything supportive.
If Kelly thinks this, why wasn't DK better prepared, this is a reflection on his Head Coach.
JMO, but after going 4-8 with no bowl, and saying that you had an NFL ready QB was not something Kelly was going to put out there; for his sake, better to denegrade the kids preparedness .
