Seriously, this seems to be the excuse I hear out of a handful of posters every time we lose a potential recruit. Does winning help recruiting? Yes! However, Is it the main reason that top Midwest talent is going elsewhere? No! For instance, MSU has been winning in the Big Ten for years, but still MSU looses out in the recruiting wars against ND, UM, and OSU on a yearly basis. The truth be told, MSU has averaged 11 wins per season and 4 bowl victories over the past 5 years and rarely recruits higher then a top 25 class.
The bottom line is Notre Dame continues to recruit top 15 classes on a yearly basis regardless of record. However, the staff does appear to be slow getting out of the gate and identifying top talent. This most likely can be attributed to the yearly coaching merry go roundand personnel changes that cause complete chaos in the recruiting department.
So please refrain from using worn out slogans like "Just win and they will come."
