The unfortunate part, and there are many, is that Paterno wasn’t here to testify and defend himself.
Since Paterno never witnessed an incident, reporting a non-witnessed or hearsay event to the police could result in huge liability issues for PSU and Paterno, if proven untrue.
Paterno did what he was obligated to do, he reported the reports from others to his superior, the AD.
Once reported to his superiors, it was up to his superiors to take action.
Accusations aren’t statements of facts !
But what does any of that have to do with today’s administration, coaches and players ?

When did I mention the police? There are agencies you are legally required to report to if you witness or hear about something like this if it involves a child.

What I stated was that Paterno reported the allegation to his superior, the AD, and that Paterno, due to his death wasn‘t given the opportunity to defend himself during the investigation that followed his death.
You should also know that the Freeh report was overturned with the President, Vice President and AD bearing the blame for the coverup. In addition, and probably as a result, the NCAA was sued and their ruling overturned and as a result, the vacated games were restored. I won’t say that that was a vindication of Paterno’s culpability, but it would seem to diminish his culpability.

When questioned by the police if she witnessed the assaults she says no.
She says that she didn’t witness any assaults, but that’s what the plaintiff told her.
Think of the damage to the children and the father if the police accepted a third party’s unsubstantiated allegation.
