It must make Sanford puke to have to sit there and not be able to run the offense. He's a 60-40 run to pass guy.

If I'm Kelly- I let this guy run the offense completely.

I get that being HC at ND is running a huge enterprise with tons of obligations and responsibilities beyond play calling and game scheming, and that there are many complexities to finding success on the field. Yet, it seems that the path to Kelly's salvation and future success is pretty clear. Sanford has now been at ND long enough to earn Kelly's trust, and the offense should be his to run, as the OP suggests. Every college football fan knows the ND defense has been a joke since Kelly hired BVG, and His first priority has to be to bring in a very good DC who has a history of being an effective recruiter. The same with special teams. None of this will fix the way Kelly comes across or his sideline demeanor for those that dislike him on a personal level, but these three relatively easy to make changes can save his ass, but not sure his ego will allow for this.

Better yet fire Kelly and promote Sanford to HC for next season as a tryout. He cant do worse than Kelly.
