6'3, 190lb Isaiah Robertson (Neuqua Valley, Napperville, Illinois) is a guy I really hope ND pushes for. A lot of people project him at WR at the college level, but man I absolutely love this kid as a strong safety. I think he's more athletic than both Spencer Perry and D.J. Morgan, who ND recruited for that role in the 2016 class and at a legit 6'3-6'4, he has a muscular frame to be 215lbs. I love having a big, physical safety that can run, and who happens to have ball skills as well.
When you watch Robertson's film, he does a nice job at WR and it's easy to see why a lot of teams are recruiting him to play that position. With that said, however, he's a little slow for my liking at wide receiver. Notre Dame needs to continue to find burners at the WR position that can stretch the field and compliment them with big bodied (6'5+), physical matchups nightmares on the other side. I think the Irish did a really nice job at that in the 2016 class with the likes Kevin Stepherson and Javon McKinley (speed) and Chase Claypool (size and strength)... Robertson is kind of a "tweener" with regards to those skill sets and, therefore, I'd love to add him to a defense that needs to continually add athletes. Robertson runs in the 4.6 range and he may not even be done growing yet. He's the type of kid that is a lock to play on your special teams and I could see him developing into a tremendous athlete as a strong safety. Robertson reminds me (physically speaking) of a taller Justin Brent and although Brent hasn't found his way onto the field in South Bend, these are the type of high-skill athletes ND needs to continue to take in each class.
At WR I'd rather ND chase guys like Tarik Black (superstar), Osiris St. Brown and Trey Blount. All of those guys can really run and up the speed component of the group after ND lost maybe it's fastest trio of receivers ever to play as a unit at ND in Fuller / Brown / Carlisle.
Isaiah Robertson Junior Film... Check it out. Does anyone else see a down safety with a huge frame, good ball skills and a physical demeanor that happens to be just a step slow and a little stiff to play WR at ND?
