Is Tommy Rees’ offense going to score today?

I guess we will find out if the switch was flipped today on the Bama offense.
I don’t think they really did—they just made a whole bunch of big plays like they have all throughout the year other than against Texas, but nothing consistent and nothing sustained. Milroe actually has an incredible arm (was firing all sorts of lasers today) and is an incredible athlete, but he doesn’t make reads fast enough and doesn’t feel pressure well. He will likely get better with more experience, but I’m not sure if Saban will give him a chance again next year because his ceiling isn’t high enough as someone who is in control of an offense.

Jalen Milroe does not have an "incredible arm..." Zero touch, not overly accurate medium range, has no real feel for the game, simply, like you say, a really good athlete.

As far as arm strength is concerned he does have an incredible arm that most quarterbacks don’t have — he was throwing frozen ropes 20, 25, 30 yards. But, yes, he doesn’t have much touch, he’s not really accurate, and he really doesn’t have a feel for the game. When you watch him, you really see that he’s very robotic, as he’s processing the game the way that he has been told to, almost as if he’s following those steps as he’s thinking about them, but not being able to naturally feel out progressions or see them or improvise with any type of touch or anything else. The only thing that he will do is try to throw the ball as hard as he can.

Well stated, and yes, he does have a strong and decent deep game throwing the football.

It might work out for them because if Williams led them down the field there‘d be no time left after they score a touchdown, but now they have a chance to do that themselves. The two missed two point conversions are really big here.

Utah is not built to pass down the field.

They simply aren't.

You see what happens without elite QBs, it’s a pretty substantial drop off.

Bama, OSU, and UGA are all very good teams still but not nearly as dominant offensively. McCord is not anywhere close to Stroud right now, Melroe isn’t close to Young, Klubnik/DJ not even close to Lawrence, a young Beck talented but not the QB Stetson was right now.

Football is QB centric more than ever, if you don’t have an elite signal caller it’s a lot harder to win all of your games.

What OSU, Bama, UGA have in common is elite rosters, so not having an elite QB is more tolerable.

100%. If you put last year’s Bryce Young on this Alabama team, I’m pretty confident that they would be undefeated and be rolling teams Ohio State, but last year’s CJ Stroud would be rolling teams.

That’s why this year is a lost year because we were supposed to have a quarterback advantage, and none of the other elite teams have a great quarterback.

You were misguided on how good Hartman was

Eh, I’d still rather have an experienced 6th year quarterback than most of the other quarterbacks out there. At least we don’t have Tyler Buchner back there. Hartman’s not an elite NFL talent or anything (might get a back up or third string role someplace), but still better than most of the other quarterbacks out there. We just weren’t good enough and lots of areas of the game versus three different teams, three pretty good teams, and came away with two losses, could’ve been one loss, could’ve been three losses.

“Truth be told, most acknowledge that Tommy Rees can coach.

There's a vocal minority who do not.”

Truth be told, Rees can coach bama’s offense to the tune of their worst since ‘08. There are some idiots that point to his salary as proof that he’s great though.

There's a lot of QBs that I would take over Hartman. But if our wr play was better, I think we'd be 8 and 0 right now

Yes, it’s not looking that great this year, but he also has a quarterback that’s probably the worst, starting quarterback that Sabin has ever had at Alabama other than maybe John Parker Wilson. Then again someone like Lane Kiffin was able to turn Blake Sims into an all-SEC type quarterback.

Listen, I’m no fan of Tommy and was happy to see him move on. However, Bama has their least talented QB room in over a decade by a wide margin.

Milroe is a terrific athlete but he just isn’t a passer, and I don’t think he’s a guy that will be able to develop into one. He has a decent deep ball but he’s errant on intermediate routes quite often.

Then you have Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner, both apparently did play well in fall camp and they have a combined QB of 12.9 in their limited playing time this season.

Tua, Young, Hurts, were all starting as freshman. Hell, Tua supplanted Hurts who had been terrific for the Tide.

So rees is calling good games but Milroe is ruining it all? You can’t spin ‘worst bama offense in 15 years’. They’re ranked 10th out of 14 in the SEC and worse in some areas. We watched him at ND for years & now for half a year at bama, I still don’t see the fascination that some of you have w/ him.

Mcelroy too
Greg McElroy also played on Bama teams in 2009/10 that had one of the countries best running games, AA OL all over, Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, and Eddie Lacy, and WR Julio Jones. He was a good captain and directed the offense very efficiently.
