Is ND/MIA the biggest game in the last 20 years?

We were ranked 4th going into the last week of 2015. If we win that game, we're in the playoff. That game was just as big, if not, bigger.

You can look at this in 2 ways. The '12 SC game was big just for ND and SC was down that year. This game has major playoff consideration for both teams so in my opinion makes it bigger.

Last 20 years, hmmm

1. SC-2005
2. Alabama-2013-NC Game-showed how far ND had to go
3. Utah-2010-turned BK's first year around, team was imploding.
4. Oklahoma-2012

What makes this game extremely big in addition to the playoffs is hopefully top recruits will see ND and Miami on the Bama level. That is where ND and Miami belong not in obscurity.

How do you leave out 2012 USC (win and play for the natty)
And 2015 Stanford? We're likely in the playoff if ND doesn't have a collapse in the final minute.
Sorry, Utah doesn't belong on the list, nor does Bama. Game hurt the program more than it helped.

2012 SC and 2015 Stanford were bigger but this will be top 5.

2005 USC, 2012 OKL., 2015 Stanford are the only 3 I can think of that may have been bigger. Def 1 of the biggest.

It is the biggest game for the last twenty years because it's the next game. Miami is hot right now. The Irish will have to play lights out to beat the Hurricane. If the Irish can keep it close and pound the ball in the first half, I believe they can wear the Hurricane down. And of course, do not turn the ball over.

Keep that god damn turnover chain in the box

Last twenty years...
I'll give my order..
USC 2005 ... If we win that what happens to the program? That one game from a recruit perspective could have been gigantic. We don't know how big.

2015 fiesta bowl vs. OSU.
Another game to show do we belong with the elites or not...

If we win that game what happens to our 16 team? Again we don't know.

@Clemson 15
Couldn't finish
The eventual runner ups and could have won that. It took Saban calling a surprise onside kick to change the back and forth scoring.
But we were that close to beating an elite on the road.
@ FSU in 14
Prime time game. Defending champs. Had them right there to win.
Couldn't finish.
Another road game we were right there with an elite. Couldn't finish.

Eerily similar situation as before. On the road. A top ranked team. We used to love walking into these situations and defeating the highly ranked home team.

Have they turned the corner. Actually has BK finally turned the corner and can walk in and not only be competitive but get over the hump and finish with a victory.

An odd defying win in the hostile environment.

I'm ready. The players are ready. I believe everyone here is finally ready to be back making statements to the top teans again. On the road no matter.

We are Notre Dame. We set the bar.

Go Irish!!

I watched Miami saturday night. I do not see anything that they do on either side of the ball that can cause ND any real problems. I just don't . Unless ND commits a ton of turnovers I think this is a mismatch. I'd be stunned if ND does not rush for over 300 again. Any weather concerns ?

I think Miami has a lot more reason to doubt than ND. Miami should have beaten ND last October. ND has played dominant football all season. Yes ND slipped in the fourth quarter against WF but it's hard to complain against 710 total offense. Let Miami haul out that turnover chain and Big Mike or QN is liable to ram it down their throats.

It'll be Miami's biggest since 2002 or so. First time they've had Gameday since 2001, undefeated, their fair weather fans will be out en masse. This feels like the good ol days for ND football!

In my opinion it is almost identical to Oklahoma in 2012. Big name program, on the road..... winner has a great shot to make it to the big dance.

I personally wont say it is the biggest game in the last 20 years.... as the NC is literally the biggest game, and we played (kinda) in one of those like 5 years ago.

^^^ This... How is the only time ND has played for the national championship not the biggest game in the last 20 years? ND losing doesn't change how important the game was going in to it. If ND loses this weekend that doesn't change the games significance it just changes the narrative.

I agree. I think one of the incorrect assumptions is that we're looking retrospectively at the games of the last 20 years (including how they went down and what occurred after it) and we're looking prospectively at the Miami game with no thought of what may happen next.

As another poster pointed out, the Next three games are equally big, and if we lose any one of them,
The playoffs are out of the question. Win all three and a major bowl game and this is a really great season,
And if every thing falls in place we could even be talking an NC ?
We must win all our remaining games !

We have got to block the blitzer coming off the edge on McGlincheys side. That blitz has been devestating.

Bama 12 (13).

No bigger game than a NC.
In retrospect ND had no chance to beat Bama in that game. Irish QB was not NC level and star LB was preoccupied. This ND team has a legit shot at a NC in the playoff and if they beat MIA the next two games are easily winnable. Lose to the Cains and ND falls back to the pack and some useless bowl game no one watches.

2005 Stanford as pretty big. A BCS bowl payout at ris on the final drive.

This is big because we are currently 0-2 in major road ACC games since the contract started. Also not doing too well in other roadies reffed by the ACC. And of course our recentish record in Florida.

Odd...it took 18 replies for someone to mention that ND was in the NC game a few years ago. I'd argue that's the biggest game by far since 1993. We hate the outcome, but playing Bama for the NC is the definition of "Big Game".

Not even close. This game is no bigger than NC State and USC this year and nowhere near the importance of Bama in 2012.

That said it is a big game and if ND wins and beats Navy, Stanford will be a bigger and more important game.

Look everyone, it's a Cane troll. I didn't think they existed because the last time they were any good, there was no internet yet.

We haven't been relevant since about 2004, which means you guys must be tearing up all those Nat'l Championships right, Oh wait............
