ND had 150 more total yds vs LSU than Alabama

ND had 200 more yds vs LSU than both Arkansas and Tex A + M

I think we run the table this season -- let's hope the luck of the Irish is in our corner re injuries

And to think they did it with Brian Kelly as the head coach. Some here say that isn't possible!

I personally didn't think he knew anything about running the football. He changed his offensive style and lo and behold they won. Intriguing concept- Don't let your turnover machine of a qb drop back all day.

Go Irish!

I love the offense that ND used in the Bowl Game.

But I will say this. They ran Lenard Fournette 11 times for 143 yards. If they would have ran him 4 more times. ND most likely doesn't win that game.

The other lsu running backs gained 141 yards off of us so it is not like they did nothing without Fournette.
Everytime LSU scored including three scores over 75 yards the Irish slowly marched it down the field.
I don't think giving Fournette the ball 4 times more would have mattered. imo.

I do.

It was an earned win don't get me wrong. But the two things that saved ND in it was Les not giving LF the ball more (that kid is an absolute beast, and plays at a separate level than most of college), and the fact that they ruled the goal line fake down at the 1 instead of a TD. I feel if they would have ruled it a TD on the field, the replay booth would have upheld it.

But they didn't call the fake field goal a TD. And it was too close to overturn.

And The Irish stopped the vaunted running attack of LSU three straight times at the goal line before they tried that desperation trick play of having their kicker trying to run it in.
They did not deserve the TD.

Just think about it? 4th down at the 1 and a half and you give the ball to some scrawny kicker.
Where was the great L. Fournette?.
The Irish took that game from LSU . They out played them and physically took it too LSU.

Did LSU have more talent? Probably !
But the Irish and especially the big oline did not let the tigers win !

I completely agree with you. My only argument was that if they had ruled it a TD on the field and then replayed it. It would have most likely stayed a TD. The initial ruling is what decided that play.

Again they earned the victory. But I am very grateful that Les Miles, acted like Les Miles and didn't give the ball to his stud RB more.

Best way to describe LSU offense under Miles recently. It is a Porsche always stuck in 2nd gear.

Continually optimistic. Me, Bodi, C35 all agree. Table sweep.

irishblooded, you are the man and you know college football. I have just been a little sensitive about the LSU game. My boss is an LSU alumn and he said the reason the Irish won --was because Basically the game did not mean anything to LSU but it meant the world to the Irish.
I live in SEC land and everytime the SEC loses to a nonsec team it is because the sec team was not up for the game.
I hate the SEC !!!
Notre Dames time has come !!

ND earned the win. And believe me LSU wanted to win that game.

But that is one of those calls that could have went either way. And explains why the ruling on the field is so important.

BTW - Purse seemed to have issues w Kelly's offense this week hoping to have Sanford take over the offense his quote was " if nothing changes nothing changes "

Here is a quote from a former USC pledge ---Stovall

Stovall, who decommitted from USC back on August 8, said late Wednesday, that he he'll be on campus for the Texas game on Sept. 5.

"The offense at Notre Dame is always good and they always seem to be able to spread the ball around," Stovall said when asked about his interest in the Irish.

The village nit wit makes an ass out of himself one more time

That is a lazy argument to make by SEC schools.

I wonder what the confidence would be like for this upcoming season if LSU had won that close game? Every fan has the right to be optimistic in August, but IMO it seems like you guys are over-weighting one game.

That is now the official conference party line every time an SEC team loses a non-con game or bowl game. Heck, Bama used it when losing a BCS bowl game against Oklahoma.

It's partly that we won, which is always nice, but it's more how we won the battle of he trenches against one of the better trench teams in the SEC, rolled up 450 yards of offense. If they had kicked the field goal at the end to beat us 31-28, I wouldn't feel much different about what the game meant to us for 2015.

It was certainly a nice win, but that wasn't a typically great LSU defense. I don't know if I see that win as any sort of a "trend". I also don't see the second half of your season as a trend. The LSU result just balances out the Louisville result. Two coin flip games.

Statistically LSU was #1 in total defense in the SEC. #1 in passing defense, #6 in rushing defense.

The game was somewhat reminiscent of the Sugar Bowl against Florida to cap the 1991 season. No one was expecting us to win and nobody was even giving us a chance. In fact, most thought ND would get smoked.

I'm jumping around a little here - if Zaire is legit this is going to be one of the best ND teams in a very long time .

I hope Kelly keeps the offense inside this kids comfort level and just has him manage the game for the first half vs Texas and if we need him for more than that in the 2nd half let the kid go a little . I would like to see drives in the first half v Texas like we saw V LSU . Manageable down and distance, short stuff to Fuller , Folston runnning the ball along w Zaire and get a few safe touches to Hunter . ( bubble screens - jet sweeps - short underneath routes .

Interesting. I was going by what the announcers & Tiger fans were saying. Is that SEC games only or all 12? Because LSU played Wisconsin plus three high school teams in OOC.

That I do not know. I just googled the SEC defensive stats.

I posted these results only to point out that w Zaire @ QB ND had a pretty good day vs a very high level defense - weather or not that translates Sept 5th we will all have to wait and see . My gut says it will -- if Zaire were a stiff or not very good at making decisions he
  1. Would not have been a threat to take over Golson's job
  2. Kizer would have already beaten him out

LSU had a very good defense, but it was well noted that their pass defense was outstanding, making up for an average rush defense. And in the game, Gilmore noted that they struggled against the spread.

My point is we can't base the season on that game. We were hurt on defense, so we will improve there, but our offense needs to show me more before I am ready to take the next step as the OP has.
