If you were Golson would you have left???

yesterdays statement conflicted with his recent statement:
shocked vs we planned for it

That's not fair to say at all. You'd be shocked if a hurricane hit NJ, but you'd better plan for it. As a HC, you can be shocked that your returning starter transfers, but if BK didn't plan for it you'd be leading the charge to bring in the next coach.

Actually he wants to go to Med School. LSU may make sense....
Yeah, if he wants to be a veterinarian. LSU is an Ag school like Auburn. He might try talking to Nick Saban, but he probably couldn't start unless Coker or Cornwell don't cut the mustard for at least 4 games.

Well, Weis made Brady Quinn an excellent college QB and he did a good job with Jimmy Claussen. Everyone who has played QB for Kelly at ND has sucked or left.

how do the fans of schools which have not played in the NCG live with themselves ?

Golson played a minimal role in getting ND to the national championship game. Not all of that was on him, of course. A great deal of it had to do with Kelly keeping things simple.

If he does that with Zaire this year, we stand a chance to be successful, but if Kelly tries teach the whole offense, Zaire, like every other QB who has played for him at ND, will be a basket case by mid-season.

Golson did his best. I am ok with that. He is an exciting player. He also played erratic and had security issues with the football. I think if he knew he was the sole starter he wouldn't have left. He was either going to split time with Zaire or play behind Zaire. Either way , I'm sure that didn't sit well with him. So to answer the question, yes I would have left if my goal was to get to the NFL. Which I'm sure his is that goal. So lots of luck to EG, I hope he has a great year where ever he lands.

Not at all sure that Golson has this multi million dollar NFL career at stake that most are implying. His body language sucked whenever there was a miscue, and his play against USC looked more like a quitter than a competitor ready to challenge at the NFL level.

I should add that I wanted Golson to stay and be a great complimentary piece, and bury last years negatives. Just think he is carrying a lot of baggage vis a vis the pros.

all thing considered, from the early hype to the eventualities, EG teased fans in much the same manner that Tuitt did; always having fans envision greatness, but never quite getting there.

You can bet that EG was told that MZ was in a position of the expected starter and that gave him the impetus to listen to the many contacts being made by many schools. He has his ND degree, he has a bright future in life, he will do very well!

nobody here thinks he is a sure fire success in the NFL. transferring may be his best option to help him pursue an opportunity at the next level.

Making it in the NFL is tough. Personally, I don't think EG is as good an NFL prospect as Quinn or Clausen were. And they both turned into career backups, after briefly starting early in their careers, without much success. So it's a good thing he has his degree, because there's no guarantee of any NFL success for him.

geez: mentioning him in the same sentence as JC is mind boggling; even BQ meant more to his team.

Explain your reasons for staying or leaving.

No, I was never a QB at ND, so I can never fully understand Golson's reason for leaving. I'm disappointed, but don't wish him any ill will. I only hope he doesn't live to regret this decision. However, I personally can't understand him leaving. This is perphaps the best team in terms of overall talent/experience that Kelly has ever had and truly has the opportunity to make the playoffs. With that said you have the opportunity to work your butt off, win the QB job, lead this team to an amazing season, and be a ND legend. Unless, he was told flat out by Kelly that he would not be the starter, why leave? I would think one in Golson's shoes would be pumped up for this opportunity and have no desire to leave.

What's your thoughts???

It depends on What Golson’s goals And confidence level is, and ,perhaps,
What Kelly may or may not have told him.
If Golson's goals and confidence level all point to the NFL, realistic or not,
Then he has to get into a system where he will be the starter, and under a coach that can, perhaps, improve Golson's skill levels.
If Golson feels that he can not play in the NFL, than he should have stayed at ND
And just relaxed and enjoyed his last year.
The other reason, Golson may have left was simply that he wanted to be closer to home?

^^

haven't you heard...EG is headin to UM; him and Harbaugh are going to be 'surfer Dudes' together!

rumors surrounding Everett Golson's reasons for transferring. These range from disliking Brian Kelly, being worried about playing time, or that he actually wanted to stay, but was denied acceptance to graduate school. All of these are possible, and we probably won't know if these had anything to do Golson's choice.......While admission to a graduate program was thought to be a formality, considering his previous academic misconduct, it's possible he wasn't granted admission to a graduate program at ND. Golson didn't say why he is transferring, and Kelly was mum on the QB's reasons in his statement to the press. Unless Everett decides to elaborate on his reasons for leaving, it's likely we'll never know for sure

Seahawk- Thanks for that post. It's an interesting point that he perhaps wanted to return. It is difficult to rationalize walking away from the opportunity to be the starting QB at ND unless it's to go to the league. Not sure it's ever happened before. Especially considering he has nowhere to go.

Go Irish!

yes john, makes the most sense, given Golson's proven loyalty to ND,,,, that he could not swing admission to graduate school. Getting a degree is a great accomplishment but probably did not have the grades to make the cut and that is what makes ND different,,, right?

I was being facetious. Part of Golson's leaving may have to do with the school workload at ND...
LSU has an excellent med school. Link

eg is a quitter and not a team player. He is selfish. He is quiting on Nd and his teammates. he has a strong arm. but his decision making is below average. He may end up on a nfl team, but he will never be a high level nfl qb. Their are a lot of bad QB's in the NFL.
