If Tenn played in the SEC…

100% Oregon and Ohio State got shafted. I get an automatic qualifying setup. But it was dead wrong to place teams without some consideration for ranking and conference distribution.

FIFA does this right for soccer World Cup seedings and distribution. Ok, ranking itself is never perfect. Europe for example is much better than Asia and upper Americas. But you have to have some inclusivity. More European teams rightfully get in on...but once in, teams are pretty balanced, except 1 group of death...where you might get 2 strong and 2 good teams.

But no way should Oregon and Ohio State be in a path of death in this kind of setup. At least not until semis. The CFP committee will learn. They will get better at this.
The two teams with the highest payrolls for players got shafted?

Now that's rich

Scheduling wise it was unfair relative to strength, achievement, and being in same conference. Payroll shouldn’t matter in this context.

BTW: payroll helps ND. Better to do this openly with brand and deep pockets…vs under the table stuff letting the SEC be an outlier for an era.

Keep in mind they blew up USC and Pete Carrol for what the SEC routinely did.

Why is it that seating is the only thing payroll should matter?
OSU was seat 8th. They won that means they play the #1 seat.
Beat the skunck bears and they wouldn't be playing Oregon.
This is poetic justice

No way should a 2 loss Ohio State or 0 loss Oregon get a harder path than Penn State, Indiana, Boise, Arizona State, even Georgia.

Ohio State barely lost to Oregon on the road in a different time zone. Fine, they lost to MI, but it's one of the more intense rivalry games...and MI is a decent team.

Georgia lost to Alabama and Ole Miss. Barely survived GT, again, rivalry game.

Don't get me wrong. You have a good point about the MI loss. But in aggregate, this is optimal...that perhaps the best 2 teams in the country have to play each other 2nd game. While Boise gets a 2nd round game vs Penn State, who lost to Ohio State and Oregon?

I am for the playoffs. They will improve it. It needs to.

No way should players be paid to play football by the university, and not required to get an education, or even just show up to a class.

So in today's college football (if you can all it that) yes when the top of the conference team gets embarrassed by the underachieving arch rival at home no less ,yes they get the number 8 bracket and if they win they play the number 1
bracket.

I get your point and it would be valid if there was some sanity in any of this.

Personally I wish ND was playing Oregon because I think MF has a chip on his shoulder and is eating it to bits to beat the best, and if the Irish beat GA and I think there's a great chance they will but, there will be the excuse thrown around their starting qb is out.

This is the last thread bear of the parity that used to exist from the AP poll. It is not believable that a team like Boise State can win three games against top talented competition. But it's slightly believable that they could catch a lesser opponent in the first round and only have to win two games against top talented competition.

No it is not a sports outrage that Ohio State and Oregon meet in the Rose bowl, Ohio State should be thankful that this system allows them a mulligan or two.

I've long said the college football student-athlete ideal has been a farce. But NIL and transfers ironically have leveled the playing field. The SEC can't hoard by paying under the table...nor create another USC and Pete Carroll a death penalty outcome, as hypocritical a punishment as there ever was. Hence t deeper pocketed blue bloods now being in pole position.

This is semipro. I've no illusions about it. And as such, why not make the ranking, seedings, and playoffs as meritorious as possible.

Let's find out who is the best semipro team of all!

;)

BTW: I also recently posted how the semipro angle doesn't stop the mob from coming. Again, think SEC honks who never attended any college, much less the schools they break the bank for. Americans love this farce evidently.

I only follow because of Notre Dame. I'm no saint nor holier-than-thou. But the Irish are my last hope for a program by and large doing the right thing...that perhaps can beat the pure semipros.

Notre Dame has a chance to combine paying players, a solid academic path, a social mission, and a great football team. That dream remains alive for me. As long as the Irish are competitive, I remain hopeful.

Back to full circle...make the playoffs merit driven.

You seem very sure of the accusation about the the SEC, and I'm not doubting them, but to have Saban just flat out deny that was interesting.
So if it was that prevalent then he's a liar, and not sure why he hasn't been called out for it Unless he's untouchable.
Saban gained alot more credibility when he walked away from this train wreck you would think he would of called that out as well.

Now the head of the SEC flaunting those pictures of the Vol fans as if the SEC is the only fan base that travels when it's widely know bowls were always wanting ND because the fan base is two fold.....
1) Nationwide
2)They travel as well.

He looked ridiculous
