Was thinking about this a bit, lot of season and lots can happen but if A&M wins out they would probably be the only SEC team.

UGA play Tennessee. Say they win, Tennessee out.

UGA plays A&M, A&M wins. UGA out

A&M plays TX, wins, TX out.

That would rematch LSU vs A&M. A&M wins and LSU out.

A&M has a brutal schedule left but can determine much of the playoffs.

You’re talking as if two losses will knock out these teams. I think 10-2 almost locks in an SEC team.

Georgia has a tough schedule with Clemson and GT out of conference. They’re a virtual lock at 10-2.

I also don’t think the committee would only put in one SEC team no matter how much it was deserved.

Never. Zero chance.

There will be at least 3 SEC teams in the Playoff, at minimum. There could be 4 or 5.

Any way they can get zero? I know they get the automatic bid, but what about that thing where if a CCG winner isn't ranked high enough, then they get shined? And while it's unlikely, it could be that the SEC is so dominant, and so deep with good teams, and so hegemonic in the sport of CFB, it's possible that everyone finishes with at least three losses and no one gets in, because they're always beating each other. And the Big Ten, the ACC and the Big 12, along with our beloved ND, dominate the field completely with all 11-1 or better teams, on account of their easy schedules playing in comparatively shit conferences. Pitt, Miami, Clemson, Penn St., tOSU, Oregon, IU, Iowa St., K-State, BYU, Army/Navy winner, and old Note Dame!

I would say definitely yes. No SEC teams at all. And really would be a testament, and a tribute to how deep and dominant a conference it really is.

If it plays out, LSU would be a 9-3 team with a loss in the championship. I can’t see them putting someone over LSU. Could be a crazy finish.

Do you mean 10-3 LSU and you *can* see them putting in someone over LSU? I can see that and hope it’s the case. They would have two losses against a playoff team and USC with a likely 5+ losses. I don’t think a conference championship loser should automatically be given a pass and allowed into the playoff. It should depend on their body of work.

Also, Georgia doesn’t play A&M. Even if Georgia loses another game, I can’t see them dropping from #2 or #3 to all the way to out. Let’s hope they lose two to three more games and get knocked out. Hard to see three losses but they have the best odds of getting in at 9-3.

Edit: 10-3 LSU probably would deserve to be in if they had two losses to 12-1 A&M.

Agree on a 10-2 SEC team

Good lord that's a lot of if's but "IF" that happens ND will be the highest ranked team non conference champion.

Obviously we need to win out...

But maybe..

With a 12 team field, there is no way the SEC has one team. For years, they have had two teams in a 4 team field. They will thrive in this tournament set up.

LOL remember when the talking heads said the expanded playoff would make the regular season less intriguing?

I dont think anyone said it's intriguing. Not that I heard. But the significance of each week is not the same as before for the top teams. A lot of sec and big schools can afford 2 losses. And we can afford 1.

The CFB regular season is indeed less intriguing than before. No question.

What do you see as the likelihood of A&M beating Georgia, Texas and LSU a second time?

To me, that seems like a pretty TALL-ORDER/INITIAL-PREMISE.

Boise St. can play. They pass the eyeball test as a fringe playoff team.

why?
Because someone told you so? I'm not being sarcastic and you're no pioneer in that as the ESPN'S and other(s) love all things SEC..

So why is that?

Know this...
The SEC will NOT play north the mason dixon line post halloween.
Not ever.

So at the very least they will have to put the big boy pants on and play north in certain situations. It very well may be this year at least for one of them.

At the very least that's a good thing, no? Getting the pretty conference out of it's comfort zone is never a bad thing.

You can disagree with me. I'm comfortable with that as well as my own opinion. The five highest ranked conference champions get the automatic bids. This is followed by the next 7 highest ranked teams overall. When was the last time 2 SEC teams did not finish in the top 12? Its a system built on rankings....not wins and losses. A 2 loss SEC team will trump a 1 loss Big 12 team, or ACC team for that matter....if that is where they are ranked at selection time. No conference has benefited from the rankings, earned or unearned, more than the SEC, by a longshot. Let me know when that changes

I meant to only quote one sentence from your post.
First of all if you follow along you'll know pretty quickly I'vd acknowledged the SEC getting preferential treatment based solely on hypothetical BS.
It irritates me they refuse to play on the road north the Mason Dixon line post Halloween.

My reply was simply meant to your statement....
"They will thrive in this tournament set up."

Thus my reply that at the very least they have to put their big boy wants on now and will have to hit the road to some unfriendly climate areas.

Unless of course the powers that be just simply continue the BS rankings and have the included non SEC winner always hosting a playoff game(s).

I'd like to think that someday they won't automatically roll out the beauty pageant carpet for them. 🤷
