How many wins should the Irish get this year for your satisfaction?!!!

If the Irish win less than 12 games this year I will be very disappointed !!! This team is LOADED with talent and Experience ! And they finally have a GREAT defensive coach (Elko)and the Rain Maker Brian Polian !! If the Irish win less than 10 and are not in the playoff hunt for real I will call for the firing of our Head Coach ! I don't think that will happen though--I think Brian Kelly has a GREAT offensive mind !! But I will be keeping an EYE on Minnesota this year and their up and coming Young Energetic coach PJ Fleck !! Howard Hall is right when he talks about him !! Pennick is right in thinking Kelly is the MAN for now ! But this season will be the deciding factor for me !! No more excuses !! Alabama can't win forever !! Thomas Edison gave us light !! Things can be changed for the better !! Go Irish !! 12 and 0 in 17 ! In Elko and Ballis I trust !!!

You find Kelly’s mind offensive?

Expectation is the same as every yr, a NC
but realistically if anything less than 9 - 3 than Kelly should be fired. Too many excuses, not enough wins. If he can't win a NC in the next 2 years, he should be gone. John Cooper had a better record at OSU but was still fired for not winning a championship, Kelly should be held to the same standard.

I know I'm living in a fantasy world but, I go in to each season hoping for a natty. So I hope for 14-0. However I expect 6-7.

Anything less than 10 wins then BK will be future endeavored. 9 8 or 7 and less and he will be canned. I think this team can win 11. Coaching will make the difference and I like the changes that happened this off season I think the Irish will shock the world this season.

Unless we look amazingly bad in doing so, Kelly is not getting fired if we go 9-3 this season. Not happening.

A 9-3 season will not get Kelly fired. An 8-4 season probably won't either, but if the losses are ugly and the team is playing poorly the last few games, then it might, and should. A 7-5 will force the issue and he will be gone. Most importantly, all this is moot because the Irish are going to win 10 this season and add another win with an impressive bowl win over a highly regarded team, and we'll be celebrating a great recruiting class as a result.

I don't think Kelly will be gone at 7-5 unless the losses are ugly. 7-5 will be stated as a turnaround with 2018 being the year. If he doesn't win more than 7 games in 2018 on the back of a 7 win season this year, then I think he may well "retire" and the Irish will look in a new direction. It's anybody's guess, except Swarbrick, as to who is on the HC radar. Hopefully the Irish will have a tremendous season followed by a tremendous recruiting year and we are on our way!

One would guess P44 to be an alias of 'continuously', except for the account dating prior to Kelly.
However, he might have been 'enlisted' as one of those 'media monitors' used to thwart any citicism of BK.
He does seem to be here in that role. Why he would be stalking you? They sure take no chances!

Most definitely a hall monitor.

Sounds like the best thing Coach Kelly has going for him is there's always next year

I won't be happy with anything less than 11 wins. But I have high expectations for our program in general, and I feel that Kelly needs to overachieve this year, to make up for last year.

And I think we're capable of that. There's only one game on our schedule that looks like a really tough game - USC. The rest are all very winnable IMO. Even Stanford was a team we should've beaten last year, if we hadn't made so many dumb mistakes. Georgia's talented, but they're not Alabama. Ditto for Miami.

It would be a great season to win 11, but I think we can do it.

Here in lies the reason for my deep disappointment: Kelly should have been fired last year. He should have fired VanDouble"D" that winter. It was crazy putting the season in double jeopardy by keeping VanDumpsterFire and letting the QB question linger into the Texas game. 31 loses in 7 seasons is ridiculous at ND. ND seems to have pushed all their chips in on Kelly and this staff. They gave 3 year contracts to the coaching staff and S&C team; save Kelly. It would suggest that the administration is giving them three years to right the ship, otherwise there's a lot of contracts to buy out. I just don't see it following all the other failures (5); Davie - Kelly. I'm generally just bummed over another good collection of players left in Kelly's hands.

^ Kelly is the most expendable member of the staff. It may be that no other contracts need be 'bought out'; the make up of the staff IS the contingency.

1 Win will secure Kelly's return. (-0- wins would be an embarrassment)
I think 10 wins in regular season would be satisfactory and get the cross marks off Kelly and his job situation etc

Perse, with all do respect, ND will not recruit a credible coach to ND with the stipulation that they would have to keep the current staff on board, if that is what you are intimating. Coaches that ND would want will be established and will want to bring their people with them. Having said that, IMO, Kelly will survive a 7-5 record if the losses aren't embarrassing. Given ND was gong to go with Kelly after last year and supported Kelly's need for changes, they had to give him the tools (3 year contracts) to be able to achieve the changes he needed to make. Good coaches would be hard to recruit without some guarantee given Kelly just went 8-4.

I don't think they will be recruiting a coach. Reread my inference.

I understand that you are inferring that they may have already hired the next head coach. You may be right, but I don't think so. ND is one of the most prestigious (arguably the most prestigious) college football programs. I know ND has restrictions that work against them. But remember, Brian Kelly, who many think is a poor coach, has won 12 and 10 games in two of his seven years as head coach. For those that think Kelly is a poor coach, just think of what a great coach could do. IMHO, if Kelly isn't successful, ND will go after and hire a national name. Please remember, AL was on the verge of becoming a mediocre has been southern school in a small town until they hired Saban, who reportedly turned them down multiple times until they continued to up the ante.

If you think realistically anything better than last year's 4-8 (2-3 ACC) would be an improvement. Lots of changes have been made including the roster. So with all this "newness" of players and coaches is it likely to result in a 10+ win season? Anything is possible but not very likely. We know it's possible because in 2013 Jimbo Fisher at FSU was forced to hire 7 brand new coaches and assistants and led FSU to 14-0 and a NC! But...........BUT, he had a freshman Heisman winning QB that was perhaps a once in a lifetime talent that continues to be a phenom in the Pro's today. Without Jameis Winston the likelyhood of FSU going 14-0 was slim to none. So.......will Wimbush be another Winston? Anything is possible......just not likely. Hope for a big number but realistically expect 7-5 or there abouts.

Oh, don't let Argus hear you say that. He's still convinced Winston is a bust.

a post from TOS, usually these are just puffery, but what makes this more believable is the guy gives actual names. I don't think a falsity would include the actual names. However it may be accurate or a distortion of the actual conversation. (I could not find anything indicating any close personal relationship between Kelly and Hudson prior to his time at ND).
Since the Elko hire, and the way Elko is acting in autonous manner, has had me thinking along these lines for a time.

My boy has taking hitting lessons from a guy named Ed Woolwine in Fishers, IN. Guy if a legend, played at Michigan with Barry Larkin. His childhood and close friend is Greg Hudson...grew up together in Cincinnati. I had beers with both last night, long story short, Hudson said the off season and in season coaching moved were all orchestrated by Swarbrick. Kelly did not want to fire BVG and Elko was not his hire...all Swarbrick. Hudson was fine with his off field position, didn't want to recruit. Kelly not happy, was looking for other jobs and will continue looking for other jobs. He and Hudson are buddies, will have him on his staff.
