Offensively we're not even close. We play like zombies.
We don't have a high energy level on offense. We play with zero urgency and exuberance.

Games like the playoffs tonight....that's the biggest disparity between us and these teams.

They are playing with a purpose and a high energy level. A spring in the step.
We play with none of that. It's like zombieland when our offense is on the field.

The defense on the other hand plays like maniacs. High speed always looking for the next play. Our corners suck...(a constant theme under Kelly is bad CB play) but the other 9 can play with these playoff teams. Absolutely positively damn straight.

We're in a different universe offensively for many reasons, wrong QB playing, collectively playing with low energy, play design afraid of failure...

Defensively we're damn close. If we can ever iron out the corner play we're very close on that side of the ball.

The huge problem is even when the defense struggles, and all great teams have those moments...(Bama and Clemson and all their great defenders have had some big scoring fest playoff games....the offense is up to the task of going tit for tat. Matching blows and scores.

That's the biggest difference between these teams and where we are.

They play at much higher levels particularly on offense than us. Offensively we aren't even in the same league. Attitude, scheme, lack of development, lack of urgency, always walking around...drives me crazy!!! etc....those are the biggest things holding our offense back. 4.3 speed is nice but we just collectively play offense like zombies and will continue to keep us at a much lower level

IMO, the biggest difference is the skill positions. ND hasn’t had as many big time play makers. How many ND WRs, RBs, CBs and QBs have been drafted in the first or second round recently? Not many compared to Alabama, Clemson, etc.

Kelly has recruited several highly ranked QB’s. He just sucks at developing them. The QB position has been the most unstable and regressive position during BK’s tenure. Don’t blame the athletes, blame the lack of development or scheme.

We havent recruited elite talents like the 2 teams had tonight. Not even close. Kizer was closest talent wise and he was drafted in 2nd round

Player development has been good for almost every position during the BK era, except QB, but in no way have we gotten talent like Trevor Lawrence, Tua, Etienne, Derrick Henry, etc.

Yea ok, keep believing that. And I’m not even including Dayne Crist, a 5 star No. 1 QB whom Kelly inherited and proceeded to ruin.
  1. 5* Gunner Kiel (2012) – No. 1 QB
  2. 4* Brandon Wimbush (2015) – No. 3 QB
  3. 4* Malik Zaire (2013) – No. 3 QB
  4. 4* Phil Jurkovec (2018) – No. 4 QB
  5. 4* Everett Golson (2011) – No. 5 QB

Sorry your day was ruined by our winning .

Guy has averaged 11 wins for the past 3 seasons and he's a bad coach.

Seek help
If we played any school in the top 10 in a bowl game what would be the result ? Answer : A loss.

Need more speed at RB and great corners. The next 2 recruiting classes are getting there . They are getting legit playmakers on Offense that can compete at the championship level. Need great corners.

We played like a top 10 team today. Oklahoma and Baylor both barely beat Iowa State. The top 3 teams are on a different level than everyone else. But I think #4-15 are all about the same.

I dont care what the rankings said.

1. Kiel left and never played a snap so thats out

Wimbush Zaire and Golson were good talents. Far from elite. A lot of weaknesses in their game. Phil actually has the talent but his accuracy is so bad. We'll see on him.

Qb development is not great but not the biggest problem

Because we are taking a 3 star qb and making him a lot better than his ranking. Works both ways.

None of the guys you mentioned are overly talented.

The guys that transferred were worse at the other place than here

so now recruiting rankings don’t matter, except when it’s a top 5 QB that actually progresses? What a joke, you can’t have it both ways. This tells me not only can BK not develop QB’s it also tells me they have issues with assessing talent. Either way it’s on the coaching staff.

They do have issues assessing talent. No argument there.

They are developing a under talented 3 star qb right now. They also developed a 2nd round pick. Development isnt the problem.

Assessing high school QBs is. Same thing with Pyne. Not overly talented.

Finally they got an elite one in Buchner. By far most talented they have ever landed. Lets see what they do with him

Perhaps but he's in the booth. Until someone starts kicking them in the ass we'll see our offense continue walking around like zombies.

We could have elite offensive speed but until we stop playing slow collectively we will suffer on offense.

Bad habits start to become the normal routine when you do it so much. Why the hell do we walk around ALL THE DAMN TIME, walk to the line, walk back to the LOS after the play, half jog on for substitutions....

urgency......there just isn't any

Well, how many teams are at that level? You have LSU, Clemson, Ohio State and probably Alabama. Then there's everyone else.

BTW, notice I didn't include Oklahoma, since ND would beat them. They obviously did not belong.

LSU, Clemson and Ohio state play in a different warp. You can easily see the difference in talent. I’d also throw Alabama in there. If you want to win championships, ND needs that kind of talent.

The problem that you refuse to acknowledge is this

This is what you said direct quote....

"We havent recruited elite talents like the 2 teams had tonight. Not even close. Kizer was closest talent wise and he was drafted in 2nd round"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Kizer was clearly the best QB right? Yep!

The problem is HE WAS NEVER seeing the field unless Zaire got injured. BK is seeing these talents in practice repeatedly and yet chooses the wrong one....ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Wimbush...17 starts until a light bulb goes off?

Kizer wasn't sniffing the field unless Zaire gets hurt.

Golson literally became a turnover king right before our eyes and yet BK kept going back to him over and over.

He we are at present with Book repeatedly getting the call while the better player is left spectating.

The most important position on the field and Brian Kelly has no idea how to handle it. He thinks he does which makes it twice as ignorant.

From your lips to God's ears!
After ten years, our coach is finally acknowledging same.

Golson was a better player than Zaire and played over him.

Kizer was going through a lot personally and really struggled in practice. He didn't deserve to play over Zaire at that point.

He made a mistake early in the next season playing Zaire and Kizer. Kizer should have started full time. Mistake.

Book is a better qb than Phil is right now.

I see one mistake. The bigger problem is assessing QBs in recruiting. He hasn't been good at that.

He finally got an elite one in Buchner
