Have to join a conference

It’s all about money so Notre Dame won’t do it. Also it won’t guarantee better recruits so what’s the point?

Joining a conference diminishes ND’s chances of getting into the playoffs, especially if the playoffs go to 8 teams.

ND sucks, theres no way around it. Weak schedule and refusing to join a conference leads to this massive disappointment. You played 1 'good' team at home game 1 (who per your own admission sucks) and snuck into the playoffs and got annihilated. There needs to be a movement to never let the tap dancing leprechauns anywhere near the national championship again. #NeverAgain

So USC, FSU, Stanford, Northwestern and Michigan aren’t good teams ?

Bwahahahaha............none of them could win 8 games in the SEC. It is wonderful to hate tour privileged, overrated little team of wannabees. Even with your own private network deal, you can't recruit or win big games. Midwestern football is a bunch of plodding leftovers trying to be relevant.

Weak schedule? Are you nuts? What is weak about scheduling:
Michigan
Florida State
Stanford
USC

And then playing Navy (ask OSU how they liked playing them!) and a bunch of ACC teams...

But I agree with the original poster -- something about teams that play in championship games seems to create a culture of a must-win championship game situation that is different than a regular season game (even if all of our games are all must-win.)

Have to join a conference. It just makes sense in today's world of college football. The thing I like about it is even if you have an early loss, you still have that goal of playing for a conference championship. But for us, one loss pretty much knocks us out of the playoff the way it's set up now. Nobody can honestly think we'd be in the playoff with one loss this season. Things change. It's good to change when change makes sense, and a conference just makes good sense.

Every single time ND loses big and is down in the dumps. The idea of joining a conference comes up. Exactly what will that solve? That will make ND play better? If ND was in the Big 10, then would they have won tonight?

They weren't this year. Not even close to top tier and we played all our tough games at home. We have to stop the idea that we are entitled to not play in a conference championship, create our own schedule, 7-8 home games plus neutral site bullshit and expect people to buy into ND exceptionalism. We aren't exceptional that ended 30 years ago. No one wants to hear about a coach from 90 years ago and a bunch of mythical bs. We have to join the club
