Hartman is on Campus. Loy says commit looming

1. You're acting like you know what MF wants. Are you best friends now. Because when he was hired you trashed him more than anyone and it was borderline racist and an absolute disgrace. You also called him a HS coach.

2. Hartman can come here and compete. Not handed anything. If he wins, he wins. If he gets beat out, he sits the bench.
He is handed it. Call it a “competition” all you want. Freeman will start Hartman game 1 bc if he doesn’t and Buchner comes out and blows a Marshall with Sam Freaking Hartman on the bench, Freeman is going to look like a total loser.

If he is afraid of what tools like you think, he shouldnt be the coach of Notre Dame

Coan never made an NFL regular season roster. Lots of guys have been in camps.
I am a Buchner supporter. The kid missed his senior season and got crap protection vs OSu.

That said, he has been in the program practicing and still laid an egg vs Marshall. For that reason I welcome Sam Hartman and let the best man win

It was rumored he was on campus yesterday and will be on campus today. It's also rumored that he will pick ND today.

Book certainly did. Coan did fine. You act like Rees has been in his current position a dozen years.
he's been over QBs for what 6 years? I think its clear QB scouting, recruiting, and development has been poor under him. That's where people think he's doing good because he can call some really really good plays and drives, they forget he's responsible for execution and qb development. Both have been lacking.

If Harman comes in, he and Buchner will spend a lot of time together. Team chemistry will be essential - it is the Gold Standard set out for a MF team. They will need to come to terms with whomever starts. I believe Hartman can be a positive influence on the quarterback room due to his experience and that he will start. I would be happy with a Two Quarterback Lite approach to the coming season.

Yep, Buchner had to beat out Pyne and Angeli so he really doesn't have competition. His frosh year it was Coan with buchner packages so buchner never really had the opportunity to run the full offense.

I think buchner is smart enough to know he's a long ways from him being good enough for a title or drafted in the NFL. So he needs to really develop, him not being a full time starter in 2023 shouldn't derail his development. It should actually help him be put in better spots to utilize his skill set while the rest of it continues to develop.

The first three games of the year we should light up opponents with Hartman playing 2.5-3 quarters of the game and buchner 1 - 1.5. This should prep both qbs to have a very dynamic game plan for ohio state. Unless Ohio State lands a stud QB in the portal, they will NOT be starting a QB that's ready for @ ND. Ohio state does start the season @ Indiana, but indiana is losing a lot going into next year, and they were already really bad this year.

Buchners make or break year will be 2024. I think if we don't get hartman and buchner had to be full time again in 23, he wouldn't be improved enough, struggle some, and ND would have to move on making him likely done at ND. This gives him one more year of play and development before a big competition with minchey and carr.

Right, that's totally what I'm slightly worried about in this situation. No particularly striking reason, it just occurred to me, probably nothing. After getting to know SH a bit, if you spend 10 minutes on YouTube watching some interviews....

That maybe the chemistry aspect of such a proven vet/star like SH taking over the team, could be touchy.... I think we all remember our last genuine QB controversy, and the 4-8 season that came with it. With Jack Coan as I've already rambled on about in previous posts, he came in totally hungry and comparatively humble, and in his case the need for a QB was acute. This time we already have veteran QBs in TB and DP before he transferred.

And as far as Coan goes, his humble, I just want to play attitude I would imagine allowed him to win the team over more easily than it might be for SH, who likes to smoke cigars after a nice win for WF..... But if SH starts and we go 10-2, then it was presumably worth the risk/trouble....

The players understand more than anyone that this era of college football is different. Minich has been posting on Twitter about buying stuff for his NIL already and the kid hasn't done squat. They're all in it for themselves nowadays. And if they don't like it they should leave because that's what they will see in the NFL too.

I think you underestimate Pyne. He beat Clemson. He beat North Carolina. He went 8-2 as a first time starter. He was immediately picked up in the portal (S Carolina coach praised him and said Oklahoma was high on him as a recruit (4*, top 10 QB) when he was there). But Buchner is special with his feet, guys cuts like an RB. But he still hasn't figured out the passing game and spending a year under a 4 year starter would really benefit him. I see many Buchner packages, I also see two QB backfield gimmick plays. A buddy of mine, not an ND fan, thought Buchner would be a good slot receiver (I'm not proposing that, but I do think he could catch a pass out of the backfield and do some damage, or throw a TD out of that too...) If Tommy gets creative this pairing could be special! Hope he stays.

pyne did make a couple good throws against UNC, but he didn't do squat that game until our run game began getting 10 ypc in the second quarter and on, and that in turn created wide open players, but he did make a few tough throws.

Pyne was terrible vs clemson and did next to nothing to help ND win. He was immediately picked up in the portal because he wasn't willing to wait for a guaranteed starting power 5 job.

Jack Coan was a godsend for us, and couldn't have been any more money as a player on the field than he was. But he wasn't the established star that SH is. That's a new dynamic, as far as this latest edition of a portal QB at ND in our brave new world of CFB. He's kind of a pretty boy, a bit of a social media star perhaps, and king shit at WF and in the ACC. As well as a kickass QB who's rightfully earned the accolades and the status.

That's the only thing that sort of has me a bit concerned, or something. Can he demand, in effect, that he be the starter at ND or else he's not interested? And would MF/Rees be willing to go for that? I suppose, though of course that has to be handled with a certain finesse. But I would definitely guess/assume that's what the arrangement will be. But if he sucks, and it's not working out, which is entirely possible, then his ass will be on the bench. And in comes TB. I don't know if he really had to worry about that too much at WF, where he was the indubitably entrenched starter. And if WF drops a couple of games it doesn't really mean anything. But it will at ND...

Whereas Jack Coan while a proven player was nevertheless happy to be here, and presumably took nothing for granted. And maybe not quite the same thing with SH. Anyway, we'll see....
ND has to protect itself-whether an injury to Hartman or one to Buchner, as well as having Angeli prepared.

Pyne was not a nd. Qb. He has great spirit and effort. Vision n skills are basic. I don’t think he’s underestimated. He is appreciated. And he is in a better situation
