I expect we will see a video soon on Irish Access, but here is how Riley Leonard described what Freeman said:

"On Thursday, Notre Dame defeated Penn State 27-24 to secure its spot in the College Football Playoff championship. After the game, Fighting Irish quarterback Riley Leonard revealed head coach Marcus Freeman‘s message to the team at halftime when they trailed Penn State 10-3.

“History is written by conquerors and we’re holding the pen,” Leonard said. “We decide how we want to write our history. And I’m a firm believer in whether you think you can or you can’t do something, you’re right. We believe that we can do it, and we went out there and did it.”

That sounds pretty good. Self-belief is important to an athlete for sure. You can't be all down and defeated and then go win a huge playoff game. Seriously, that's no joke. I don't know about the 'conquerors' part, but I suppose that's appropriate for football. You gotta get back out there and physically dominate! For soccer or basketball it's probably a little different metaphor or whatnot, to inspire and lift your team's spirits.

That would be awesome, if he had a sweet little video he showed them, and he had a projector all set up in the locker room, just for a moment like this. And it was a brief instructional video, about ten minutes, on how Cortes conquered the Aztecs. And it was 200 of them vs 20,000 screaming Indians. Well animated, and with a suitably impressive and powerful ending. And he emerges from the gloom when the film is complete, and before they turn the lights back on and return to the field to meet their destiny, that's when he comes in with his short prepared remarks about conquerers and history and pens. And then the rest is history of course. Or rather BECOMES history.....
