Game thread

Great call, but not such a great pass, but, it’s a TD

Let’s go D

Beautiful 2nd half of football .. that pick 6 made it look way closer than it was down the stretch. Could have easily been a 20+ win.

It isn't a detail.

That play illustrates what ND has to clean up to improve the offense by a good clip.

Rees has a lot of development it seems. Beyond my pay grade to assess Tommy decisively. But Freeman has a lot of thinking on the future of Tommy...as it will impact his future materially as well.

I'm no longer sold on Tommy given the entire season. He seems to make too many bad play calls in critical moments, not maximally leveraging strengths while mitigating weaknesses. Again, as always, I hope I am positively wrong.

The off season should be interesting!

Agree, defense was pretty bad this year. They look slow and also somewhat undersized upfront. Golden did a bad job in game preparation and made few if any adjustments at halftime; similar scenario again today. Offensive line has also frankly not shown up this game except for one drive. Overall,a coaching staff that once again looks to be over its head.
I thought the defense did make adjustments. South Carolina only scored one offensive TD in the second half and that occurred a play or two after Morrison left the game with what looked like a concussion, and Clarence Lewis got exposed once again.

I agree, though that the offensive line is really overrated. Fortunately, SC's defense was pretty worn down, so after the long pic six, they were right back on the field and didn't have enough gas left to stop us.

Clarence Lewis passed the receiver off to Watts who was way late rotating … and of course the ball was caught out of bounds.

Situational awesomeness was to go down at the one there. 3 knees, FG, GAME OVER
You are misrepresenting. Wasn’t a slam dunk. Patterson got hurt so saved USCjr a TO. It’s 3rd down with almost 2 mins left, and they have all 3 TO left, when they used their first TO after 2nd down run. It’s 3rd and long. So they would still have one TO left and only needing a FG to tie

Couldn’t agree more. Freeman is tying his immediate future to Rees, who has not proven to be a great recruiter, QB developer or play caller yet. There’s a time to be clever and there’s a time to deliver the final knockout punch to a staggering opponent. USCs will was broken after we pushed them down the field with ease … it was winning time and Rees decided to outsmart them instead of run them over. That’s a pass he would have made as a player. Just awful call and awful throw to a receiver who wasn’t even open. Rees shows flashes but too many head scratchers impact the overall game plan.

I did think the guy's toe was out of bounds, but they have better equipment to watch it on than I do.

And while it did appear like Lewis was passing the receiver off, I just wonder who he was planning to cover.

I tend to not like it when fans pick on individual players, but I can only think of only one great play Lewis has ever made and that was when he came across the field to pick off a pass against Navy (I think) earlier this year./

Incredible we couldn’t get a clearer replay. Once he was called inbounds on the field that was going to be a tough reversal. Lewis is a 2nd string CB and has had a lot of balls thrown his way.

No, it was a good catch, he was in bounds, but he was wide open, terrible defense.

Still a lot of whining after and Irish Bowl win. I thought the Irish played tough, when they fell behind, and the coaching was just fine except for the 1st down passing attempt from the 7 yard line. When you have an RB like Estime in your backfield, you just give him the ball as many times as it takes.
I enjoyed the game and all fans should too.

So why was the ”called“ play on the last TD any different ?

The failure wasn’t in the play call, rather in the execution, or lack thereof !

Lewis never should have passed it off because he had outside and no wr as short
