Considering the families of those who died, I don’t blame them one iota. Was hoping it wasn't true, but looks like it is.

The College Football Playoff quarterfinal between Georgia and Notre Dame has been postponed, sources told ESPN, following a deadly pickup truck attack in New Orleans.www.espn.com
lowest rent possibleThird class, truth be told.
Low rent.
Absolutely. This is the right thing to do.
Me neither. God bless victims and the city of New Orleans.Considering the families of those who died, I don’t blame them one iota.
Are you aware of complicating logistics involved in postponing the game for a week?why dont they make it next week so the game maybe gets in before the super bowl
Moron alert.why dont they make it next week so the game maybe gets in before the super bowl
got it in before I couldMoron alert.
I agree with this.I trust the authorities on this. They might have intel on other threats. Better to be cautious.
But it does hurt that even a lone wolf can pull this off and short circuit society. Never mind being able to kill at scale. The copycats will take note and keep this up...at events like this.
We need a cultural and legal overhaul. The AI exists to target, monitor, and interdict. Hire the best and brightest to do so. Make it rule of law culture, punishing criminality to the highest degree...as opposed to enabling it, with some parts of our society glamorizing it.
RIP to all the victims. It angers me to no end that they died just enjoying life. For football, a rite, ritual, and pageantry, even as we debate its authenticity.

You are 100% spot on !Yes
Couple decades of allowing these behaviors to go unpunished is a key component. Not arresting smash and grabs; pardoning repeat offenders, excusing behaviors because of color or religion…

Yet, you said earlier in thread to push the game back a week.I agree with this.
Go to the biggest highest profile live events around the country before you commit a mass murder suicide so that everything gets pushed back/postponed/cancelled thus extending and increasing the degree of damage and terror.
I dont think this guy planned out the attack expecting to live, rendering any punishment useless in this scenario.Yes

its pretty clear this is basically the same thing as the homicide bombers some call suicide bombersI dont think this guy planned out the attack expecting to live, rendering any punishment useless in this scenario.

Somehow I'm not surprised you're in favor of letting silicon valley, and the 'game over for humanity' existential threat of AI as incarnated by inanimate, literally lifeless, soulless, bloodless computers, and so-called killer robots whose advent onto the crime fighting scene is probably inevitable in any case. It couldn't get much more dystopian than that, and I would rather have the odd mass shooting or truck rampage, than a regime of AI overlords and armed quad-copter drones freely stalking our flesh and blood human presence, in the name of safe, predictable, corporate-approved social order and harmony. We're already hyper-monitored online, everything we ever say or type or do. So we'll let China go down that road. In America we're a little hardier than that.I trust the authorities on this. They might have intel on other threats. Better to be cautious.

Well what's frightening to me is that this was a veteran, once being sworn to safeguard the US from terrorism.People favor stricter law and order, unless it targets something that affect them or their loved ones.
Well what's frightening to me is that this was a veteran, once being sworn to safeguard the US from terrorism.
Right. And what I keep thinking as I'm reading about this is what prompted him to do this? What could we as a society have done to prevent this?its pretty clear this is basically the same thing as the homicide bombers some call suicide bombers
Right. So why is this happening? Are our armed forces and our government not doing enough to prevent this from happening? Did this guy ask for help and was told, take a number? There have been several veteran mass shooters. Terrorism can spring from most anywhere.
So you’re proposing that he’s a victim.Right. So why is this happening? Are our armed forces and our government not doing enough to prevent this from happening? Did this guy ask for help and was told, take a number?
No He's a 42 year old veteran. Furtherst thing from a victim.So you’re proposing that he’s a victim.
This isn't terrorism. Terrorism is like, organized political radicals, who have an agenda and commit acts of violence and mayhem in hopes of advancing it. Like with 9/11, this is nothing like that. This is just some disturbed dude who has quit on life and is full of rage. Not 'terrorism'.There have been several veteran mass shooters. Terrorism can spring from most anywhere.
Public execution for those found guilty of terrorism would be a nice start. The country needs to send a message. The only way to stop this sort of thing is become like North Korea.
are those here willing to pay that price?
FBI is investigating this as an act of terrorism. They said its unlikely he acted alone. IEDs found in car and nearby. There was an ISIS flag found in the car. How can you say with certainty that this wasn't terrorism? This isn't terrorism. My grandson just graduated from TAMU, and he's pretty bright.Somehow I'm not surprised you're in favor of letting silicon valley, and the 'game over for humanity' existential threat of AI as incarnated by inanimate, literally lifeless, soulless, bloodless computers, and so-called killer robots whose advent onto the crime fighting scene is probably inevitable in any case. And America doesn't have any best and brightest anymore. We just have the meritocracy. Definitely not the same thing. And you get whatever you get, typically the sons/daughters of the wealthy, who are not at all the best or brightest, nor were their parents. And then just academic grinders and strivers, who are frequently of exceedingly mediocre intellect. I guess when you get to the narrow discipline of computer coding, the cream can still rise to the top. But to what end? The godfather of AI and neural networks warning the public about the distinct possibility of human extinction on account of this AI you want rolled out?
No thanks!
Get off the forum and read the news. They believe he didn't act alone. Which means it is a terrorist cell. This isn't terrorism. That is not the definition of terrorismThis isn't terrorism. Terrorism is like, organized political radicals, who have an agenda and commit acts of violence and mayhem in hopes of advancing it.
