Crickets.... All the Kelly haters would regret wishing Kelly would leave or be fired. I would like to hear realistic coaches that would take the job if Kelly left.

Agree 100%, Coach Kelly has done so much for this football program....the depth and talent on both sides of the ball is proof to his insight into what it takes to be a winning program
I think it's fair to debate whether Kelly is a good or excellent or great coach. Given the demands of ND, I think he is a great fit and has done wonders with the program. I personally think he is an excellent coach, but great is reserved for those few who regularly have their program in the championship picture, and who have won more than one. I hope we're applying that adjective to Kelly using that criteria several years from now.
The only thing I would like to see, is the DL recruiting get better. I really think if CBK can get this part of the D fixed ND will be a great team. ND can't get a pass rush worth a damn on a consistent basis. LETS GO IRISH BEAT THE TROJANS.

You are what your record is. 8-5. Anyone at this point is a better option. We have the easiest schedule, Kelly has his best team and we will not even crack the top 10 by the end of the season.

Just so you know I am a ND fan, I'm a season ticket holder who lives in Houston, Texas and makes it up to South Bend for the games. A true fan doesn't do that or spend that kind of money. A good coach. In five full seasons Kelly has had one that was 10+ wins. He's cost ND so many games and 10 win seasons in five years it's patheric. Think of how many recruits ND has lost by constantly being stuck at eight wins.....
We are still sitting here wondering if ND will ever return to the national stage. Meanwhile, scUM is on the verge of making the playoffs in year one of Harbore. It must be nice being usc, michigan, and ohio state. They all have politics on their side come selection Sunday when their teams are good.

Not one would come to ND. Kelly is as good or better than that list. I believe ND has approached Petterson and he declined to stay out west. Dan Mullen? LMFAO!!! He is already an 8-5 coach. Bill OBrien is about to get run off by the Texans and Chip isn't coming back to college yet. If he does he will go back to the Pac 12 where his offense fits. Chip might be the only one from that list ND would want. However CBK is our coach and he is here to stay and I as a fan support him.

I think Kelly is a good coach. That is the problem though : he is merely good. He wins over 70% of his games but we have only gone to one big bowl game during his tenure. In 5+ years, that is a disappointment for sure. I don't think we will every get to the top tier consistently, but he's easily the best coach since Holtz.
When Kelly is gone and 10 years have passed, we will look back at the "pretty good ol days".

He gets a pass this year because of multiple starter injuries but if he blows marquee games or loses to lesser talent then his seat deserves to be hot next year. How about Utah's coach for a replacement? Imagine what he could do with ND behind him.

it's a fact . in the last 4 coaching searches what high profile coach showed even a hint of serious interest ? no one. like it or not most coaches don't want to deal with the recruiting issues nd faces. I've talked to many coaches about nd. they can make big money anywhere in this day and age.
Gerry Faust never won 8 games. Bob Davie won 7, and 5 twice. Willingham won 5 and 6. Tuna Light won 6, 7 and 3.
Post Ara ND is 3-5 with the coaching hires. My suggestion would be to enjoy the Kelly Era and shut up. Because the law of averages says the next coach will be a bomb.

Kyle Shanahan? The last 3 coaches hired at ND with no college Head Coaching experience were Gerry Faust, Bob Davie and Charlie Weis. Those guys combined were 22 games over .500 in 15 full years. Brian Kelly is 29 games over .500 in 5.5 years.

agreed but how does that qualify him to run a major college program ? head coaches at this level administrate much more than they actually "coach".

First, that is a straight up loser's attitude. Second, It calls for speculation and speculation is impossible to prove and therefore, a Kelly fan can pretend to be, brave, smart and right without competing....which they are used to doing.

O.K. Let's start with Art Briles, Gus Malzahn, Mark Dantonio, Chris Petersen, Gary Patterson,
Kevin Sumlin, Dabo Swinney, David Cutcliffe, Mark Helfrich, Hugh Freeze..... Talk to them and see who's interested at the 2-4 million range. If its a real winner go higher, heck the addition to the stadium is 400 million.

Face it. Kelly's offense is brittle against great competition. We can't line up and play power football. Look at what Harbaugh built at Stanford and what he's built AGAIN at Michigan. Look at what Barry Alvarez built at Wisconsin with 2 star and three star talent.

We play Powder puff football. It looks nice against the weak sisters on the schedule, but Kelly's teams will always get exposed. If you can't see that by now, I guess you just don't know much about football other than what wings to order with it at BW3.
