Driskell posted a nice article where he detailed the projected depth chart. A few things that stood out:

1. Coogan over Rocco
2. Baker is the 1 at RT
3. The WR is stacked. Collins and Faison both in the 2nd group. Cam Williams not in the 2-deep.
4. Rod Heard is ahead of Shuler (I think Heard is gonna have a nice season)
5. The LB room is loaded with talent.

Literally stopped reading after one word.

That said, the thread title got me to click.

Not a big fan of Bryan Driskell by any means but any content he does regarding how players are fitting in the 2 deep is usually pretty good ... thanks for posting

That's according to right now. He has said he expects Rocco to win the RG job. Prister thinks Wagner beats out Baker

To me, his selections read like what we saw and heard going into the Spring game. I’ll be surprised if Rocco doesn’t win the LG position over Coogan. RT is the puzzle that needs to be solved.

The lb room is definitely stacked with talent but it is unproven. Goldens D is pretty damn complicated to learn

I have a feeling we will see a lot of attached te on right side this year....sadly

I'm gonna be more optimistic.

I bet that most power 5 teams would love having Baker or Wagner at RT. Hoping that 1 or both are having great summers. One of them will emerge and play solid football at RT.

The OL IMO is the biggest concern on this team. Hell, the OL collectively did not play that well last season, especially the interior. And both starting tackles left early for the NFL.

One of TAM's strength is the DL, game 1 could be a struggle up front on offense.

You're not confident with the interior OL? Craig and Shrauth are emerging stars. Coogan and Rocco are seasoned and talented.

If Jagusah is what we think he is, then this unit should be really strong.

I sure as hell hope not. We finally have an OC who likes to open up the passing game and unclog the line of scrimmage, and skilled players at running back, receiver, and QB to execute. But, your point is well taken unless or until one of Baker, Wagner, or Lambert separates from the rest and takes charge of the position.

Baker must've done fine in the bowl game. I don't recall there being any glaring issues with the OL. Oregon State managed to sack Angeli twice, but we had a very balanced offense with 468 total yards.

That was OSU’s scout team. ND lost a few players to the draft and portal by then. The Beavers lost like 40.

Oregon State in a bowl game, whose head coach had left for Michigan St. weeks before, and game #1 at TAM....... are two different worlds. A 180.

I agree with you. If we're expecting Baker to be Joe Alt.....then be prepared to be letdown.

He's huge. He's talented. He's been with the program for several years. I think that Baker will certainly be serviceable. Perhaps he steps up and a few things break his way, and he puts together a nice season. Several power 5 teams would love to have Tosh Baker at RT.

I think Baker would do fine if he starts but I expect him to get beat out by Wagner.

Unless the staff wants to go with the older guy for game 1

It seems to me Baker would be better in the run game, at 6'8, 320. Wagner only weighs about 280. But he's more athletic and might be better at pass blocking, particularly against quick edge rushers.

He'll be close to 300 by fall. Was over 290 for spring he said

We are not recruiting OL as well as we did in the Brian Kelly era but we are still recruiting the offensive line decently.

This is why recruiting matters so much

when guys leave early for the NFL or get injured or get suspended or transfer you have a lot of good prospects there waiting in the wings for an opportunity

The offensive line is going to be fine because the recruiting there has been fine

I'm way more concerned with the passing game tight end play quarterback play and wide receiver play

I'm not convinced bringing in a bunch of G5 talent at wide receiver and another ACC quarterback is the answer to our passing game woes over the last several years like everybody else seems to be when you consider just how stacked the playoff teams in college football are at those positions

Lol

Like low 3*s Joe Alt and Mitchell Evans... Just terrible recruiting.

We should be fine going forward. There were some misses and some inside heavy classes with questionable takes that are working through the depth chart now.

This is the main year we have issues, and really it's mostly at one position, right tackle.

Rudolph has demonstrated a like for bigger athletes that can play tackle...which allows them to move inside if needed. In many respects a 4 star tackle that is 300 and up and can move ends up being as good or better inside than some 5 star guards that cannot do all the movement that ND requires.

I don't have any issues with OL recruiting moving forward. I'm more concerned with coaching and development which we will see over them ext two seasons.

I'm not going to take over another thread on this topic. I don't think Wagner will solve his weight issues this year.

I will say based on play we have seen Wagner should be starting regardless of size, because when baker is good he's solid but when he is bad he's really really bad.
...but coming out of spring Wagner's not the option.

Gotta trust the coaches on this one. If ND was gonna start Wagner it would have been a very easy way to get a scholarship spot back in the spring. Again, that's not happening which makes me think the coaches are going to give baker a long leash.

I'm half joking. There are lots of ways to protect without an attached end in the modern game, but there will be scheming away from that side a lot. Regardless of who's on that side. And I'd expect lots of rbs or tes motioning in to protect that side as needed. This is where the loss of Payne may hurt the most as he was a strong blocker in pass pro

We've never had 2 OL leave after their true junior seasons. I'm not sure if we even had 1.

That is what caused the issue

This is his track. He was never going to start before year 3

This is the year he was expected to compete to win a job and that is what is happening

Wagner was the best OL in the spring game so yes he would be the top option. And Driskell, who has been in your camp, has said that he's hearing Wagner is doing very well in the summer which is rare for him to say.

Most expect Wagner either to win the job game 1 or shortly after

I think most people are being forced to switch more from bakers performance than Wagner being on track.

That's the point. That's not a good situation.

Everyone hoped Wagner would come in and take over in the spring. He didnt, as of today he's second string.

Bakers a 5th year senior and you think the staff wanted him to transfer? If they put in Wagner as starter during spring, Baker could be gone and that's not a good situation

What really matters is who plays during the season, not what happened in spring

Rudolph seems to like veterans as well (Coogan and Spindler over Schrauth. Correll over Craig)

That's what the transfer portal is for.

Thought Payne was our best rb blocker in pass pro, so totally agree with your take here.
